Summers here and so are blisters

I finally found a pair of sneakers that I like that hold my orthodics and work on helping my overpronation. They have been working great! Got them in March.  Occasional blister here and there, but nothing crazy. Now that it is way more humid outside, I have been getting more blisters! All over my toes  I even got the Injinji socks (toe socks) to help with blisters.  I think heat is culprit of my problem because it seems that my feet are swelling and don't have enough room in the toe of the shoe anymore! (I'm figuring this by where my blisters are on my feet). Anyone have any suggestions to help with this?!?

  • longer shoes.

liberally grease up wtih Body Glide or vaseline.

  • X2 for Vaseline
  • @laura- it may be that your running shoes are a 1/2 size too small. When we run for a distance, especially in the heat, or feet definitely swell a bit. I wear running shoes that have plenty of room in the toe box. Also, I use a product called 2Toms Sport Shield. I originally bought it a couple of years ago to help with chafing on my chest, but have used it on feet and other places. It's a roll on, not greasy like Vaseline, and easy to apply. You can find it online or in some running shops. I think it goes for $13. Here is a link:

2Toms also makes anti blister stuff which is like a powder, but I've never used it. Hope your feet heal quick and you get it all figured out soon!
  • I agree on the shoe size. I like a product called TriSlide. It is a spray on and you do not need to touch your tootsies at all :-)
  • Blisters are caused by two main things: moisture and friction.

    Moisture: sweat, humidity, rain, etc.
Friction: wrong size, food sliding back-and-forth in any direction, swollen feet (which Brad addressed), incorrectly fitted socks

In Texas, you can't avoid humidity, which by the 2nd mile, my feet are swishing on every footstrike because they're soaked by sweat!

I've addressed both by getting tighter-fitting socks, using shoes slightly larger/longer than I'd usually get and by using powders (ex, Two Toms is GREAT!).

  • SOO I completely spaced and forgot to THANK YOU all for your advice!!! And give you an update! Seems that my sneakers were a bit too small! Went up a 1/2 size (same make/model) and used body glide on the toes and WOW!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! SO much better!! Thank you all
