Confusing numbers

OK, lets lay out the background.  I am comparing my numbers from 2013 and 2014 Kinetic HIM.  Same course, same bike, and it took me the exact amount of time to complete the course.  SO, why are my NP and Average power less in 2014....  It was hotter by about 4 degrees this year... Yet everything else this year at the same time, same pace was less... HR and Power.  I am scratching my head.

  • Tailwind this year or headwind last year???

    PM not calibrated (zeroed) properly???
  • Same weight? Aero setup? I wonder if it was a PM issue- I see that your max power last year was 610 W... That could just be one spike, but if there was a lot of high readings, could throw off the NP.
  • What Bob and Rachel said. You need to identify the other variables (wind, weight, aero setup, calibration, etc) before we can isolate what's going on here.
  • OK, So 2014, i weighed about 165ish. In 2013 i was around 160ish.

I do remember in 2013 that there was a nasty headwind around mile 45 and it lasted for about 5 to 7 miles. My highest average watts (20 minutes) on that bike was around hour 2:05 to 2:25 (2013) at about 185.
  • OH, set up. I think i was running different cassette in the back... 11 - 23 and this year i was running 11-27
