Jeff Goudeau Micro Thread

I'm new to EN (trial member ends tomorrow) and new to power.  I did my 5K test yesterday and unfortunately had to move my bike power test to today because of a very early flight tomorrow.  I'm disappointed in both tests as it is was just not the best week for me to do either one and I know doing them back to back was not the best option.  How long should I wait before trying to redo them?

Also, I was hoping to schedule a call with Coach Patrick but I none of the times are possible due to my work schedule this week.  Is there ever a time late evenings or early morning to chat?

  • Jeff tests are just starting points...it's a baseline and doesn't have to be your best.

Most of the time your regular workouts will dictate more of what you can do (like using your rolling 30-day chart from CyclingPeaks)...we can discuss.

You can text me at 6175133830 and Endurance Nation can set a time that works!
  • Thanks Patrick!   I got my plan uploaded and will get going.  I'm traveling for work and vacation over the next week so am having to improvise a bit but I'm ready to get training!

I'm gonna shoot you a text tom b/t flights.

    Thanks again

  • Coach Patrick, we talked earlier today and I mentioned I had to ride twice during the week since the weekend was kinda shot with the race I'm helping put on.  Any guidance on how to approach the second ride?  It will be about 1.5 hours on Thursday and I will move long run to Friday.  Thanks!
  • Sorry late! Second ride would be the default ABP!!!! Good luck with the race...
  • Good that's pretty much what I did.  Race went well.  Attaching a few pics of me and the kid.  Left my volunteer post to run the last stretch with him.  He may be faster than old dad!!!

  • Awesome. That kid can fly! I like the second picture...you guys run the same! :)
  • Wow, I never noticed that but dang we do!!!

  • So I had a run go South today. I knew I was tired and have had a rough week doing manual labor on my property (had a tree fall) so fatigue was a big issue. 45 mins into a 110 min run I stopped it because I was slowing down and doing myself no good. When these things happen should I try and make it up later in the week or just call this day a wash and keep trucking with the plan. Sorry if this is a silly question but my OCD brain struggles with going off plan...
  • You were right to stop. When overloaded pushing through only means more time running on crappy form and higher chance of injury as well as excessive fatigue into the following week. Kudos to you for trying, but onwards!!
  • Thanks Coach P...I gotta say I'm really digging being a part of EN.  It's nice to have such a big support team.

  • Coach P, I'm on week 11 of the Intermediate Ironman training plan (just bumped up from 1/2 IM plan). 1 hour swim 4 hour bike 1 hour run Saturday....but the forecast is pretty craptastic weather wise. I'm hoping I can swim Friday evening before the weather but biking Saturday or Sunday outside may prove to be difficult. I can hit the trainer but not usually for more than 2 hours before I lose all focus. Thinking of 2 hour trainer and 1 hour treadmill Saturday and 2 hour trainer Sunday but wanted your opinion on how best approach the weekend should it be unsafe to ride the road.
  • Jeff if that's what you've got, it's good. Gotta be safe and consistency is the key. But you might have to chill the Monday as off after two days like that and especially indoors.
  • Well the good news is the forecast changed at the last minute so I made Saturday the off day and rode this morning. The bad news is that at 3:15 in I was in aero and looking down at my power meter and didn't realize a pedestrian had stepped over into my lane until it was too late. I managed to miss him with the bike but we bumped shoulders and I hit the ground...minor scuffs on the bike and I'm a bit bruised (rib) but nothing to keep me out of Augusta or IMFL. This is a test week (week 12 of IM plan) and if I'm not up to testing should I push them back a week?
  • Just do the week no tests...be sore to warm up properly and avoid eyes-down time by driveways, intersections, etc.
  • Thanks coach P, it was a bone head moment for sure. Went to Dr. and there is a small fracture but they said I can get back to training as soon as I feel the soreness gone. Hopefully only a few more days. Its killing me because my run has really improved with you guys and I was looking forward to that test! Soon though!
  • Glad you are ok. Yikes!!
  • Coach P, still having a lot of pain when I try to run or swim. (But I bike 130 miles this weekend!) I've got a follow up appt tom and I'm wondering if I didn't reinjure it or something when I sneezed or coughed. Right now I'm thinking I need to scratch Augusta and focus on IMFL. I'll let you know what Dr says and we can take it from there or should I hit coach Rich on macro forum to hash out the season?
  • Ugh...yes to the scratch and you can keep it here, we're all good!!
  • Well the bad news is the nurse practitioner misdiagnosed me...the good news is that I don't have a fracture but did a number on the cartilage. The Dr. (real Dr this time) said I should be back to normal by next week. Back on track!!!
  • Oops but PHEW!! :) good call getting it checked out!
  • Wow! What a difference a week can make. Local tri club did an OWS swim (1.2 miles), rode our local 70.3 bike route and ran 40 min in Zone 2. Ole Mc Rib is still bothersome but no longer painful. Just wanted to say thanks for the support Coach P!
  • Coach P, first of all congrats on Kona!  Great job on a tough day.

Quick question, due to the rib injury and my wife being in the hospital I've missed a few long runs.  I've got one fifteen miler and a handful of 13's under my belt.  Week 18 calls for a 1:45 run as long run then a RR on Sat.  Just wondering if maybe I shouldn't try and get one more longer run in (3 hours) or should I just let it be?

Stick with the scheduled long run and do NOT do a 3hr run. Instead, are you able to add an additional ~45' run this week somewhere?

  • Yes sir, I can do that Sunday for sure. Thanks!
