HED 3 wheels

I'm struggling with deciding on wether to keep my HED 3 wheels on my bike.  It seems that when I ride, the wind just blows me all over the place when I have these HEDs on my bike.  However, when I have my regular non-carbon wheels the bike handles much better and I'm a lot more confident riding without them.  I want to like the HEDs, but seems like they just don't handle cross winds very well.

The HED wheels came on the bike I bought so they are used.  I'm wondering if they are out of true or do these wheels just handle this way.  I can't imagine the wheels getting this popular with such a drawback?

My big race is IMAZ, from what I understand is not that windy?  Should I get the wheels check?  Sell them and buy something that makes me feel more secure?  Or keep them as they will rock for IMAZ?

Anyone else in this forum have experience with the HED 3 spoke wheels?

Thanks

  • I have a HED 3 front wheel that I use for races.
Yes it does notice the cross winds but I have found that with practice it is not dangerous.
In my A race in May, it was so windy I didn't use my rear wheel cover but I was fine with the HED 3 front wheel.
  • Btw, this should be in the gear forum not the macro forum!
  • Thanks Peter for the helpful advice!  Sorry I posted this in the wrong thread too.  Rookie mistake, I'll make sure to pay closer attention next time.
  • Coach R can move this to the Gear forum if he sees it!
