Bike Zones seems too hard
Well I calculated my bike zones according to the calculator. Is it just me or are the bike zones just too hard? It takes everything in me to reach the target heart rate zones, but there it seems impossible to stay there longer than a minute or so. Am I just that out of bike shape? Before this I consisted myself a decent rider. Certainly not the best, but somewhere in the middle. Should I turn the zones down a notch to something I can maintain or keep striving to achieve the prescribed zones.

How much training have you been doing, do you have a base level of fitness?
Are you reading Lap heart rate or real time live HR per interval?
Heart rate training is real deal stuff as well as power tap. Are you hydrated and rested what is the temperature your training in?
Your plan surely isn't designed to run you into a brick wall so don't go that route. Yes back off and use a rate of perceived exertion ( RPE) using a scale of 1 - 5. For example Z1 is (RPE1) and so on.
Get back with some more details^^^^^ we'll get you figured out.
I'd use the effort you KNOW you can hold. To confirm, you did use the _average_ HR from the 40' test, not HRmax, right?
Hi David, no need to apologize. I appreciate the questions and advice!
I live in Florida, so there is really no off season. Plus I love to ride and train. Got into tri's 3 years ago and doing my first Ironman this year. I would consider myself pretty healthy, I did 70.3 Haines City and Disney marathon last year. Most of the tri guys I ride with I can dust or at least keep up with.
I did the 40' test and calculated my HR from that using my Garmin 910xt.
I could be dehydrated, although I drink a lot of water and do the Nuun tablets. I live in Florida, so it's really humid and hella hot. I do work third shift and I may have taken my HR test on two days rest. Hmmm now you've got me thinking...
Hi Patrick,
Yes, I did calculate my average HR over 40 minutes using my Garmin 910 and HR strap. If you ever get bored and want to look at my trainings they are all posted on garminconnect.com I use the name mrslice and anyone can view my data there.
Thanks, I think I will have to dial it down a notch, if I'm to maintain it for anything longer than a few minutes.
