Week 19-20: TriBike transport messing up my schedule?

So my bike is scheduled to be dropped off on Thursday, July 17 for IMLP.   I will be without my bike until I get to Lake Placid late on Thursday so no riding until Friday.  It looks like that will make me "miss" the long Saturday rid, the Tuesday interval ride, and the Thursday race recon.  We already plan on doing the recon on Friday.  I'm looking for any suggestions on how to adjust my training plan.

Thanks!

  • Ethan - yeah...that's the "hate" side of my love/hate relationship with TriBike Transport. I've managed to borrow a friend's road bike for the two races I've used TBT on. It's not ideal but it's at least allowed me to ride.
  • The same situation happened to me 2 weeks out from IMCDA. For the week sessions I used a spin bike at the gym and I ended up borrowing an old road bike for the 2.5 hour ride which didn't feel or fit right at all. Don't sweat it too much since you are tapering and you should have already built your bike fitness....these sessions will keep you loose and from going crazy but ultimately have minimal impact on your race.
  • If you would follow the rules then this would not be a problem!! imagehttp://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

Rule #12// The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.
  • ditto on thatimage

got a road bike, fixie and old bike with powercranks..... I know I need just one more tri bike...... get old ones cheap! good workout!
  • To make matters worse, just got the email from TBT and they have moved the drop off date up a day to Wednesday, 7/16. I'll be in Las Vegas for meetings Tues-Thurs so looks like I will have to drop off mine on Monday before heading out. That's a long time without a bike. I guess I'll go with the spin bike during the week but wary of even borrowing a road bike or another bike for the 2.5 hour weekend ride based on riding something I'm not fit for and tweaking something, etc. Any other wisdom/solutions on what I (we) should do? Taper hasn't even started and I'm starting to panic, should be a fun 2 weeks...
  • No need to panic. You've done the work...the hay is in the barn. IMLP is on the 27th and the "work" that you are scheduled to do these last 10-14 days is not going to build you any additional fitness. Just do the best you can with what you've got access to (spin bikes, friend's ride, etc...) - there are enough things to stress about - this doesn't need to be one of them. You'll be fine!!
  • X1000 on what your teammates have said. Find a bike (spin is fine) and just sweat it out. Your work is done....ride as long as you are confident the "temp" set up isn't hurting you. If you can't ride, adding swim time is always a bonus at this point in the year!!
  • Thanks to all, my buddy from the bike shop will let me borrow his DA.  Which is great, but then I'm going to want to upgrade from my B2.

@ Paul, I am already at S, S+1 would end badly, but I like the rules!

  • Ethan - I think more SAUs are in order to turn that S into an N. I have 3 bikes by the way. Been thinking of adding a mountain bike but I have a storage problem!
