IM CHOO Wk9!

Thought we needed to start some weekly threads and build up the mojo!  Today starts race prep- get psyched!

I had a great big day yesterday, but this morning's swim was suffering.  My shoulders were just dead, and the rest of me wasn't much better.  Could this just be from being in the aerobars for over four hours yesterday?  I ended up bailing after 1000 yds, just couldn't push through, my form was abysmal, major slog fest.  Not exactly how I wanted to start Race Prep phase, but sometimes you have to listen to your body, right?

The big thing for me in the next few weeks is going to be to get the workouts in with a very busy work schedule, AND get sleep.  My sleep has been majorly lacking, and I know that to absorb the work, I need to get to bed earlier.

I've also decided to take a page from JW and cut out recreational sugar for the last 12 weeks.  Last gelato was last night...

Let's hear how the WOs are going!

  • I've been slogging along. I have a 70.3 race on Jul 13 so am in a mini taper mode this week. I have been knocking out 50-60 mile rides regularly in addition to recurring weekly pain cave bike trainer sessions. The ocean water temp in SoCal is very nice so I have been able to get in approx 1mile open water swims each Sunday as part of a group swim (trying to keep away from those sharks however image ). My just head out the door and run mode is a good running base of 10-12 miles. After my 70.3 race, more long runs and long cycling adventures will be starting. The month of August will definitely be my big volume month. I'm looking forward to experiencing Tennessee as I have never visited the state before.
  • This has been a frustrating week for me. The past two weeks had been great as I've been building my run mileage back up with my hip staying happy. This week has just been full of false starts. Monday morning was the swim bail (see above), Wednesday evening I was trying to do my FTP ride on the trainer and could generate no power, so called it quits on that. I ended up getting a great FTP ride (well, lets not talk about how much I hated that 110% stuff at the end) on Thursday morning. The real negative is that now instead of my hip, my knee is a bit unhappy. Tried to do a long run this morning (schedule is all off this week) and got a half mile before shutting it down in hopes that a couple days off running will solve it. I think in the 3+ months I was pretty much not running due to my hip made my knees forget what this running business was. The day is still young though so hoping to get on the trainer for a bit and get a swim in. Just been so flat this week which is disappointing after two good weeks and not how I wanted to start Race Prep phase! I think a lot is due to stress at work. Damn grants. Why can't it just rain money?

How has the week been for everyone else?
