Olympic (& Sprint) tri during an IM training schedule
Hi Coach R,
I'm in week 10 of the int. IM plan.
I'd like to do a Oly on August 2 - I'll be in week 13 then - and then a sprint on week 17 (but that's less important).
Is that a good idea? I haven't been racing in a while I would like to get the experience again before my first IM. Should I re-arrange my training schedule to do the races? Or do the race on top of my workout? Or just scrap the workout and do the race? Seeing that both races are on a Sat, it doesn't sound like a good idea to not do the Sat long bike ride.
Thanks

The oly in Wk13 is fine. The sprint in wk17 isn't a good idea, as that's a very, very valuable training weekend for you. Please read this wiki article for a detailed discussion how to integrate races into your training plan: the Self Coaching Guide
thanks
Can you do the Saturday workout on Sunday vs Monday? Don't recommend you do it on Monday, as that will start to bleed into the other stuff you have scheduled that week.
thanks
Race on Saturday, do the Saturday ride on Sunday, then pick up on Monday with your regularly scheduled workout. After the race on Saturday, maybe you could run an extra 3-4 miles on the course? IOW, finish, then after a few minutes just run 1.5-2mi out, and back to the finish. Just banking some extra run mileage. Not required, but as long as you're there and all suited up...
