Graham_P's Big Plan

Hey Coach R,

Coach P suggested I post this in the macro forum.

I've been reading the "life after IM" posts on the forum and I get the following: For 2 weeks do bugger all you wont be able to anyway!. Next 2 weeks next to nothing.

For my end of season post IM fun I have the following planned (before I take all of October off, then start up NOS again)

1) Half IM 4 weeks after the IM (last year the gap was 6 weeks)I

2) Half Mary 8 weeks after the IM

Although I want to beat my times from last year (which is totally achieveable), both events are an excuse to be with my Tri-club team mates, friends & family (i'm sick and tired of solo training!). Thoughts please!

I plan to do the HIM using my residual IM fitness, but wanted your thoughts training for the Half Mary - what plan should I follow for the 4 weeks upto the event?

Coach P said that a HIM 4 weeks is super not recommended. It's one of those "sounds good now" but after IM you are not that into it. What is your view?

Cheers, Graham

Yes, a HIM 4wks after an IM isn't recommended. As Patrick said, sounds like a good idea now, but won't be such a good idea about 40 miles into the bike and will be a very bad decision by about mile 7 of the run. That's fine, as long as you have realistic expectations about what your goals are for the race, but the big item that people underestimate is just how mentally you will NOT be into gearing up for an HIM after an IM. It's much less of a training, physical issue and more of a mental, motivation, burned out, can't be bothered issue.

As for the half marathon, probably good enough to simply load up the half marathon plan to end on that race and follow that plan.

  • Hi Coach
Looking forward into 2015 now. Not going to go an IM due to family commitments, but I will return to IM in 2016. 2015 objective is focus on GET FASTER by increasing FTP (225W) and run speed, (vdot 48) with the target of a 5hr HIM (I'm currently at 5:21). I'm planning to do 2 HIM A races, late in the year (e.g. in July, Sept). I'm intending to start off with the usual NOS and GF sessions. What is the best way manage this e.g. do 2x repeats of the NOs / GF plans?
    Tx

    Graham,

Please submit a TSR request so I can plan this out for you. Sorry, just better if I know how many weeks we're looking at, etc.
