Jeff Goudeau Macro thread

I can't usually ride on Wednesday's as my plan calls for but can run or swim. I need to do my weekday ride on Tuesday or Thursday.  Currently I run on Tuesday (speed) and Thursday (long). Thinking of moving Wednesdays ride to Tuesday and Tuesdays run to Monday and swimming Wednesday but wanted to get your suggestion on how to best handle this?

 Thanks in advance!

Yes, that sounds good. However, Monday is usually a relatively light day in our plans, on account of what we have you doing on the weekend. So you may find at some point that moving the Tues run to Monday bumps up against what you did on Saturday and Sunday. Just an FYI, something to be aware of.

Oh, and since you're in LA, you're missing an x at the end of your name. I grew up in New Orleans

  • Thanks for the response! Funny you should mention that. Years ago one of my ancestors decided to disown his brother over a dispute and dropped the x to be different!
  • One more question. My zones on my plan seem to have switched to my HR and not my power. I've been searching for a few minutes and can't find my power but I know when I did my field test I put my power. Is there someplace to look this up if I forgot?

    Hey Jeff,

I believe that all of your power zones and test stuff are recorded in your profile so suggest you check that.

  • Jeff, the same thing happened to me because I filled in the power and the heart rate info for my update and it defaulted to the HR. Go back into the calculator and just put the info for power from your last test and hit save and the power numbers should appear on your training page.
  • Thanks Mark! That did the trick!
  • Coach Rich, I was talking to another EN member and he informed me that you guys had him change his workouts around some when he had a "big day". For instance this weekend I have a hour swim, 3 hour bike, and 45 min run. When I get off the bike here in South LA it will be in the 90's and humidity will be outrageous as well. Should I knock the run out first or perhaps save it to last and jump on a treamill even if it means a 15-20 delay between them?
  • Doing the run in whatever manner (first, last, indoors on a treadmill, etc) reduces your heat stress is fine. The intent of the day is to gain the experience and confidence of doing a big day of training, not to worry about super fast transitions, etc.
  • Hi Coach was reviewing my intermediate HIM plan for the next few weeks and noticed that week 14 calls for a HIM race rehearsal but you have me doing it on week 15 then switching to Full IM training plan the following week 8/25 where I'll be on week 11 of the IM plan.   I guess the question is do I follow the plan or your roadmap and if I'm doing your roadmap what should I do week 14 instead of doing the race rehearsal? It would work well for me to do the HIM rehearsal on 8/17 as I'm tied up on sat 8/16 and can only ride Sunday that weekend. Thanks in advance...

PS I'll be in your old home town 8/16 cheering on your old team...Who Dat!

As for the scheduling of when the 1st RR is "supposed" to be, follow what's in the actual plan vs what's in the roadmap (and I'll make a note to start telling people on their roadmaps that the RR is in wk14 for the HIM plans vs wk15).

As for the actual scheduling, ie, when do you actually do it, the date / timing of that 1st RR isn't super critical. You can move it forward or backwards a week, whatever works for you...

    But...

I do want you to start the IM plan on the date that I indicated in your roadmap. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Thanks Coach, I will say that after a little over a month with EN I'm feeling really strong! Had some great runs/rides this weekend.
  • Coach Rich, hope you guys are enjoying Tahoe despite the conditions and bad news. I'm doing Augusta next weekend as a lead into IMFL. We had talked awhile back about it being a B race. As for the swim I'd really like to do well and I'm gonna swim strong and count strokes and push it a bit towards the end especially, on the bike I'm gonna focus on staying in Zone 3 as much as possible and Zone 2 the run. I just wanted to hit you up and get some feedback on the plan...I'd like to push harder if possible but I don't want to mess up training for IMFL.

    Jeff,

You should always race a HIM like it's a race, not like you're doing it as an IM RR.

  • Gotcha, my main worry was pushing too hard and not being recovered for the next few weekends of long rides and runs.  I'll read more on the WIKI on approaching the HIM as a race but any advice would be appreciated!
