Jan's post IM season

Coach R,

I have IM Canada coming up this weekend. After that I will be on vacation for a week followed by a cruise for 7 days. These 2 weeks will be rest, relaxation, family time. I haven't signed up yet, but would like to sign up for an olypmpic 'plus' (0.6 mi/39 mi/ 6.2 mi) on Sept 6th. What do you suggest as far as getting back into it when I get back from vacation. Not an A race, but would like to get 1 more race in before tri season closes in PA. Thanks.

    Hey Jan,

When you get back, just load up the Short Course plan to end on that Olympic and follow that.

  • Rich,

I'm back into training following the short course plan for an olympic distance tri on 9/14. After that I was planning on taking my offseason until the Out-Season begins. I saw huge improvement last year when doing the out season. However, I won a free entry into the Philadelphia Marathon ( 11/23) at work. I was not planning on doing a marathon, but since its free I will probably change my mind. What would be the best way to go about this marathon training following the race on 9/14. Since I just did IM Canada 2 weeks ago, I am assuming I should NOT try to maintain that long distance endurance at this time. Looking forward to your advice.

    Thanks, Jan

    Hey Jan,

    After the Oly,
    • Load up the marathon plan to end on Phily. I don't think you'll need to maintain a marathon-flavor long run between now and your Oly, as you'll have a good bit of time in the marathon plan.
    • After the marathon, connect with me and we'll talk about what to do for December.

The OS and marathon training do NOT mix, don't even try it, so racing Phily = you starting the JanOS on ~1/5.

  • Goodmorning Coach,

The end of the year plan has changed a little bit. Weddings and possibly moving back to Florida are making it a busy end of summer and fall. Therefore, my tri season has come to an end. Decided this would be best a few days ago. I had been following the short course training plan and feeling very good. So I am no longer doing the olympic 2.5 weeks or the Philly marathon on 11/23 ( good thing I hadnt signed up for the tri and the marathon was free). I am planning on taking a break from EN until the Outseason, then join the team again. Training with EN has helped my wife and myself tremendously and we're in for year 2. When does the Nov OS begin so I can join back in on time?

    Thanks, Jan

  • Sounds good. NovOS starts Oct 27th
