NYC this weekend

I'm heading to NYC this weekend for a conference (my bike will not be coming with me on the plane). Short of using the stationary bike in the hotel gym, any tips for keeping to my training plan( Half Ironman wk 7 int - sat 150min on the bike sun 120min on the bike with regards to my bike? Do you know of a Triclub or bike rental in the area that I could get a real bike to use? thanks

  • Rob, I personally don't want you riding in NYC as a newbie. image A gym is a great alternative, even a 45' spin class followed by a 45' run is a solid workout. Tell me what you did on Monday and we can dial things in next week!
  • missed too much - not sure where to begin

I failed to mention in my last message that I had back to back work trips planned. In New York I tried your suggestion of the 45 min bike 45 minute run: what I acutally did - 45 minutes on one of the "espresso bikes" in the gym, I pushed the course pretty hard trying to hold my FTP after the standard EN warm-up. I then hopped on the treadmill. I was sweating so much that within 5 minutes the treadmill was soaking wet from my sweat that it was too dangerous to continue (I was literally slipping). The next day I ran in Central park - 3miles out at HMP pace and then negative split on the way back. The 3rd day in New York I did a cross-fit workout in the gym. I had a few days off of traveling then hit my next trip. This time I brought my bike and trainer to use in my hotel room. The bike workouts on my plan were too long for indoors so I did several Sufferfest video workouts - Fight club day 1, then another treadmill workout day 2, followed by "the Revolver" day 3 followed by travel day.

Its been over a week since I've been in the pool so I was planning to do Monday's swim workout today (this afternoon) and then try to hop back on the plan (week 9 of HIM intermediate) tomorrow AM. Any thoughts?

  • Rob you are a monster. I like where you are at, and yes the swim is a good call. Some skills but also a bit of rest...as you are going to be tired after that travel and hard training. Any more trips coming up?
  • No trips but start a week of every other night on house ICU call. Riding into work (20 miles) and should he able to do Friday planned swim at lunch. Should he able to keep planned Sat bike (sweat test) and hopefully run. Sunday bike won't be an option (120 min by plan but realistically only have 60 min)
  • Those are fine adjustments...get it done but done force it too much...you might need a break every now and then and that would be ok. :)
