Long Run / Camp
Patrick,
Thanks for the call last week. It was helpful after Racine 70.3. This week I am in Week 18 of my IM training plan for IMMT. Last week I had my longest run, 3 hours, just over 16 miles. I was surprised that the run for this week is not 3 + hours, as I was looking forward to the psychological boost associated with an 18 - 19 mile run. I have not run that far since 2012 IMWI, where I had a massive nutrition failure and walked more of the marathon than I care to remember. Are we beginning taper?
I will be attending Rich's EN camp this Friday in Madison. Question: does it make sense for me to run 18 miles on Thursday evening? I believe the schedule calls for a 1.75 hour run. Seems like we are tapering.
A closing thought. Your response and that of others may be helpful to those of us who are new to EN. I am reading the incredibly fast results from EN team members from IMLP, IMCA and other races. Frankly, I am dumbstruck and wondering if I am on the wrong team. I am no where near the fitness level of so many of your members. My only real goal is to finish IMMT faster than I did IMWI in 2012. Since it took me 16:28, this hopefully will not be our of reach.
Unlike 2012, I am mostly healthy this year. Nutrition during my 121 mile ride on the IMWI 40-mile loop on Sunday was excellent, i.e., no GI distress. During my hour long run afterwords, I also felt fine. I need some encouragement from team members who are not necessarily podium or AG top 10. I am hoping I am not going to be the slowest finisher on the team at IMMT. If I am, I will live, but you guys are really fast.
Frank

My $0.02...the last sentence confirms you are on the right team. You are striving for improvment and have a goal. The great thing about this team is there is no minimum capability or fitness level. You are putting in the effort and striving to do your best. That is the key point.
Best of luck at IMMT!!
