Missed too much - Dont know where to pick up - Sedlak thread

Hey coach Patrick,

After many travel delays and an unexpected layover stay with a toddler  - We have finally returned home from LP.  And I don't know how to pick up my workouts.  I got in my interval runs (2.5...) and one swim.  No rides.  I'm exhausted today after about 2 hours sleep and having to work.  How do I get back on track?  My B Race (and only race left in the season before IM New Zealand) is in a little over 2 weeks.  I'm doing the Get Faster Plan and feeling like I have to do swim/bike/run for the next three days to get it all in.  help?

  • Leslie I think you texted me...do you still need input!?
  • Well.....I had a great swim yesterday - then my husband was taken to emergency via ambulance at 0100 this morning - so I've been up since then and didn't get a ride in today. I need to use my babysitters tomorrow to get spend time at the hospital - and it doesn't look like he will come home tomorrow - so chances of getting in a ride tomorrow are slim. So now what? Feeling like quitting triathlon at the moment because I'm so far behind - but also feeling very dramatic because I'm beyond exhaustedimage Just got the kiddo to bed - so going there myself....thoughts? Other than needing a clone of myself! image
  • Leslie, I hope your husband is ok. No worries about the workouts...sometimes you need to just take care of the important stuff, workouts don't matter. If you can...even a 30' run or ride on the trainer will keep the fires burning another day. But fist you have to sleep and take care of your fam. Plse keep me posted.
  • Hey Patrick - husband came home last night - YEAH! He's under supervision for a couple weeks, but we are glad to have him home. I promised him I would tell you how much he enjoyed the 4 keys talk at IMLP and how many times during the race your voice popped into his head to flatten the hills, stay in his box and enjoy the race. Although, I have heard a lot about the girl who asked him if he was drafting.....Had a hard time staying in his box for that I think image Have you ever had an athlete complete an IM and a week later have a few spells of passing out? He did fall on the bike, but finished the race, and seemed very aware until these episodes. His heart stopped for 4 second two times in a row when he passed out at the hospital. After 4 days in the hospital they chalked it up to an anomaly and sent him home with standing leg exercises.....seriously.

I had a good ride on Sunday (2.5 hr with last hr in zone 3) and did a quick 30 min run yesterday (which felt slower than molasses) and I should be able to execute the next two weeks as planned. It looks like the last week of GF is a good taper for a race - so I'm guessing just follow that and just replace my 5K workout with my Sunday race.

Thanks so much for all the help - I'm getting excited for outseason this fall and gearing up for IM NZ!!!
  • YAY!! So happy for you guys. Some athletes do experience such cases, basically fit but very low blood pressure, which is t a good combination. I assume he got a full Cardiac Workup? I'd post to the medical help forum as well...worth input from our smart peeps!!

Your plans are good...don't get frustrated...the fitness / sharpness will come around!!
