Modify running in short course training plan.

Hi Coach Patrick,
Coach Rich suggested in my Roadmap that I reach out to you this week in regards to modifying my runs in my short course training plan. I have a full marathon October 27th, but have been training for the Kokopelli race which is on September 13th. Let me know how I should modify my runs and I will gladly do so.

  • I also forgot to add that the tri club here in Las Vegas is doing an open sprint race the 7th of September. I was wondering if I should participate in that race which would be a week before my Kokopelli race on September 13th? Let me know if you think this is a good idea or not. Thanks again!
  • Laura what is the Kokopelli race? :) I am East Coast....sounds like it's in New Mexico?
  • It does sound like it should be in New Mexico! :) It is actually in southern Utah. It is only a sprint/olympic distance race - probably why you haven't heard of it as well. I am only signed up for the sprint, but my first full marathon is October 27th.
  • Laura I suggest you load the half marathon plan to end on your race and then print out the weeks so you can see how it stacks up. You'll need to get in the long run each week...and be running 4x a week across all your workouts. So you'll be doing the plan (yes to the races) and then the long run for each week...how does that sound
  • Okay, I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. After my sprint triathlon on the 13th of September you want me to load up the beginner marathon plan? But make sure I am running 4x a week right now 1 of them being a long run now?

    Or do you want me to load up the marathon plan now and see where my running would be at and then implement that into my beginner short course training plan?

    Also, do you recommend me doing the club sprint race on the 7th, a week before my schedule race on the 13th of September?

  • Marathon plan long run table is in the wiki. You'll want that now to start the long runs (it should show all the runs for each week) while on the triathlon plan before you transition to a full Marathon plan. Yes to both races that's fine....
