getting into plan for IM maryland (Patti)

this weekend was tough.  just worked solid in ER.  got 40 miles in with group on Friday but no other bike ride or run

.  This is serious!

here's the real issue for this week:

travel on Thursday to Milwaukee.  Will do race on Saturday.  I wonder whether I shouldn't try to ride long on Sunday? while I'm there?  I do not know

  • Not an issue I am sure...but the long run is a good idea! How much control do you have over the remaining 6-ish weeks? Remember, you do have a fair amount of pre-existing fitness, which is good, but we do need a few longer rides in the coming weeks!

    I feel your pain . i sat down with my bosses and showed my training schedule to them and worked out the big days where the long and important stuff had to be completed(scheduled those days off or a late shift). all other workouts i have to get up at around 2-3am to get them in before work 

    sometimes life gets into the way but it all has a way of working out

  • Thanks, James! I am cutting down to 4 shifts per month in the busy busy ER and am doing less primary care stuff in office. that helps!

    ok, control over next 6 weeks....
    I have nights the weekend I come back so I can get in a good 80 or more miles on Sunday on the bike. Can probably do group ride on Thrusday which is about 20 30 miles fast. Long runs have been doing on Mondays. Got 15.6 miles in on Monday. (wore a new shoe, Altra Torin... cushy but flat... just to alternate with the Tarmacs) that was good. The weekend of the 20th I have off an entire day on Sunday so I can ride with the group a hard 50 miles and follow it up with solo training for the final 50 miles.

    the next week is Edmonton and then I travel to MT for the half for the next weekend. I'll get there fairly early and can bring my bike with me. Home by Tuesday so I can get in my (endurance ride) which is indoor but killer 75 minutes and I modify according to what you all have on the schedule for me. Then day shifts in the ER that weekend which is tough but I can do group ride on Friday and add on to it after I get off from shift Thursday night. That is one week prior to IMMaryland so I hope to have it together by then! I'm gong up about two miles each week on long run. Swimming mostly OW but did pool WO today and will do another swim tomorrow to get the swim WO in. will do tomorrow OWS going for about 3200 continuous. Today was the hard intervals. I'll do another run tomorrow and then again a short one before the race.
  • BTW, I'm finding that I try to do the original recommendation you gave me of the trhee runs and the three bikes but m increasing distance on one bike and one run during the week. Mostly doing a bunch of OWS but I like the intervals in the pool... You can tell that I like my swimming. It is soooo therapeutic!
