Injury to my inner ankle-IMMT is 13 days away!!! HELP!

So during my race rehearsal Saturday I felt a "niggle" on the inside of my right ankle.  Nothing to slow me down or overly concern me.

Two things I did differently this RR...I didn't wear my zoot compression sleeves (I have really not trained in compression all year, just raced in it, and only once this year) as I usually do, and I ran my second run in the Hoka One One new fluffy light shoes, the Clifton.  On the first run they felt awesome and I ran very well.

I have soaked the area in epsom salt and done downward dog as suggested by my "sister" and our teammate Cathleen White.   I went for my run in the Hoka Stinson lites this am and started to feel it after the second TH mile.  Especially when I flexed the foot while going up a small grade.  I hopped on the soft trail...still hurt...ran the trail/grass back to the road...still hurt...shut it down and walked the last half mile home.  Pissed.

Any suggestions besides shut down the running and soak and stretch above would kindly be appreciated!

  • You are fit. No more runs. Ice, ice, and more ice. I'd do 20-30' of packed ice for 4-5 times per day for the next several days. I'd also do e-stim but I have my own recovery stim machine so that's my go-to for lots of niggles. Get in to see a physio right away if you can. A physio might also do ultrasound (I do that myself as well at home). And don't freak out! You have almost 2 weeks to get it all better...
  • I fully agree with JW.... and somehow not surprised that he has his own stim and ultrasound.... do those things and you'll be fine.... and yes no need to run....
  • Ice Ice and more ICE!! Gentle stretching. Keep it moving with spelling the alphabet out with your ankle and such. Supportive shoes at all times- no fancy shoes, no flip flops, no bare feet. You are in shape. No running!
  • Thanks all! I will sleep in my compression socks tonight, ice, ice and ice some more. I don't have the gizmos JW has, but I can go to a pt who has it, and is a Olympic qualifier marathoner. He has an alter g too. Anyone used one of those??? Running is not my best discipline!!!
