Yep Rich that was me......Didn't want to introduce myself as " Hi Rich my names Mark, got any butt cream in that rental car" Bet you never thought you would read that in the forums & I probably owe you a Starbucks as well.
Seriously, If anybody has a remedy I would love to hear it.
X2 what Rich said about not getting them in the first place, which for me the keys have been: -bibs, not shorts (DON'T know why it took me so long to figure that one out!) - NEVER wear bibs more than once, ie...wear them and wash them! Along the same lines, shower ASAP after rides. -some kind of lube for riding....aquaphor or DZ nutz
Once having gotten them, which I did fairly bad earlier in the year before following above advice, had good results using a mix of over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream and a multi antibiotic/pain relief cream, both of which I got from Walgreens but I'm sure are at any of those type of stores.
FWIW, I fairly regularly use the antibiotic/pain relief cream now after rides, and add some of the hydrocortisone if a little extra tender.
@Leslie....all I can tell you for sure, is that they are way more comfortable, and the saddle sores healed up and didn't return since starting to use the bibs, even with increased time in the saddle. Like coach Rich said in some other thread, thousands of roadies over millions of miles ought to tell you something.....or something along those lines.
What I suspect is the reason...and this too was covered in another thread somewhere... is that the bibs are "held more snugly up against you"(or something along those lines), than shorts, leading to less friction and chaffing which is the real culprit. Of course the friction and chaffing is also decreased with the lube, and exacerbated by any lack of attention to hygiene....hence the "wear them once and wash them" rule, as well as the shower ASAP after a ride advice.
Others can chime in, but this has been my experience, and understanding as to the why. But the bottom line for me is I don't care about the "why", only the end results....no pun intended
Hmmm.... Before I drop coin on bibs, I'll try the other ideas. I already shower before and after and use Chamois Butter. I'm going to start with the antibiotic/steroid concoction ASAP.
I can NOT leave a venue (I never ride from home..Detroiters love their cars and bikers..not so much) in my run/cycle kit. I ALWAYS take a change of clothes, and use baby wipes to clean myself up. Easy, disposable, gentle. Perfect. Next season I may add in the cream treatment too. Good idea! I also shower with African Black Soap. I read about it on Slowtwitch. It's got anti bacterial stuff in it, and is great/gentle on your skin. Even my super picky 22 year old loves it.

Hey Mark,
Are you the guy to stopped to chat with me this weekend at the top of Old Sauk?
Best way to get rid of them is to not get them in first place. What's your current Undercarriage Maintenance Process?
I've been able to avoid them (knock knock) but maybe someone can step in with some cream/treatment recs.
