HM Balanced Plan Tweaks

Hi there!  After Timberman, I'm going to be moving into the Half Marathon Balanced Beginner Plan.  I'm checking it out and wanted to touch base with you on a few modifications...

- I won't be swimming

- I do a group ride on Sat. am so would like to move the Sat. run.  (Maybe to Fri. as I have half days on Fri?)  If that isn't a good idea, I can do a diff group ride during the week instead.

- My next race after the HM is Jamestown Road Race 10/14 so I def. need to keep the pedal to the metal on biking.  (PS Wanna come cheer me on?? That's in your neck of the woods, right?  Ever done it? Any tips?) Any modifications to this plan based on that?  (I'll be switching to the Bike Focus plan after the HM)

  • Since you aren't swimming the balance plan is perfect. That Saturday run is usually the key run of the week. I would suggest getting it done on Fridays and biking on Saturdays planning on a lighter Sunday.

Jamestown has plenty of short Steep hills, be ready. :-)
  • Whhattt?? I thought Jamestown was flat? Argh! My only hope of staying with peeps was a flat course. I'm going to try to ride the course sometime before the race and see what I'm in for..
  • Almost forgot, I have a sprint tri I'm doing as a relay (bike- 12 mi) that I want to nail. (We came in 4th 2 years ago!!) Anything specific I can do re: bike WKOs to improve that? (I estimate it will take me around 37mins)

    PS COngrats on KQ!!!
  • Kim you have many competing goals all the time. :) I would have you bike 2x a week -- one is an FTP session of 2x12 or 2x15 and the other is a 75' ride that includes a 40' TT effort! Can you dig that?
  • Thanks P. yeah, Jack of all trades, master of none. That's me! Fun with fitness right?? (Hey, at least I'm not doing a Tough Mudder and an open water swim race). Don't wanna make your head spin!
  • Just giving you a hard time. :) I love your competitive spirit!
