IMCHOO Training Wk 8/11 - 8/17

Our IMCHOO Race Director is a friend of mine and I've had the privilege of picking his brain from time to time about the race. They are busy working on the swim start now and I promise you this, he is the best race director I've ever seen, he truly cares about the event he puts on down to every single detail, we are in for a treat.

Reminder to give a shout out here if you are going to the training camp- would love to see everyone out there on the course!

Soo..... How is training going?

  • @Mariah... good stuff on the swim start.... clarifies one question I had about rolling start via first come first serve or pace corrals.... I really wish they did it by pace... but oh well IMLOU was no big deal... Not worth lining up early IMO... I assume the barge is docked?

Today was a forced rest day... Only my 5th ZERO day since 12/15.... I very rarely take a day off but do lots of very short easy days and call them rest days... Last night after dinner I got hot/chills, feverish , achey all over , took advil PM and spent 11.5hrs in bed.... This am up , breakfast, back to the couch were I have spent the whole day.... Really hoping its a 24hr bug/virus of some sort..
  • @Mariah -- Thanks for the info -- I would like to start closer to the front but I'm not going to stress over it. I think there will be plenty of room to pass

@Tim -- Heal up! Im right there with you. Ive been fighting off a cold since last Tuesday and can't quite shake it - Cut a few workouts short last week but still got in 14 hrs or so with a solid long run and long ride. Today -- I'm beat. Bailed out of my swim workout early on and may rest completely tomorrow too (other than going to work). I'm Focusing on recovery and being back on track by Wednesday.
  • @Mariah, I heard a rumor that they were closing the dam for the swim and I am hoping that is not true. Can you verify with your friend?

@everyone else, stay healthy! Sounds like a lot of yuk is going on around EN. Get Well, everyone.

  • @jodi I will see what I can find out

My home town weather made the first story on Good Morning America..... getting really hard to get in a good workout with all this rain! Hope everyone else is having good training days
  • @Mariah - I will be at training camp! Here is a question for your race director friend. Why are they not starting us in the water like they do at IMAZ. Same space as Choo. Is it because of the river current?

Hope y'all recover quickly and/or stay healthy. Took my Wed bike/run wko out to the hills today. Glorious day outside. Afterward took my bike to All3Sports and had them look at my rear cassette. Turns out I was running and 11/25 (I'm a bit of a bike weenie, hence the ignorance) which explains why I would run out of options when everyone around me was smoothly climbing the 3-5% grades. I switched to a 28 and can't wait to try it out on the race course this Saturday.

Is anyone going to Chatt to do the organized practice swim this Saturday? I'll be doing the swim and then riding the course afterward.
  • @Amy  There is an IMCHOO Facebook page where I think people ask questions and sometimes they get answered if you want to do that. The IMCHOO team is fantastic and I know we will have a memorable day!

You guys are amazing and I know EN is going to dominate!
  • Wednesday's are my favorite bread & butter bike trainer pain cave session in evenings after a day in the office.

    Another great feeling workout -
    Bike 80min; main set as 3 x 15min at 230w (92%); Total session IF=85%.

This weekend I am riding in a big organized century ride with about 5K of ascent. Looking forward to it; I've been doing it every year for the last five years.
  • Thing are really starting to come together. I've been kicking all of my sessions square in the nutz the past 2-3 weeks.  Solo weekend in the Blue Ridge Mts this padt weekend - knocked out 4.5hrs and 7k climbing  at .82 IF on Sat, another 3.5hrs with 5k climbing at .78 IF Sun. Then 2x20 @ FT hooking up immediately with a 45min high-VI group ride at .9IF Wed evening, and just cranked out a 2hr run with 5-mile progression finish - 6:50, 6:40, 6:30, 620, 6:10 this AM. Next week is high volume with the ChooChoo camp. Oh yeah, and I also ran a 16:57 5k PR and set a new FTP PB a few weeks ago. Welcome to the 40-44 AG
  • @David - Great Bike workout

@Joel -- good to see you on the board. Thats some run speed! And congrats on 5k PR and FTP test. You seem to really be hitting on all cylinders.

I've mostly bounced back from my cold and got in 1hr on the bike last night with 4X10 at FTP. Actually all of them were about 10W over FTP and the last one was the strongest. May be time to retest?
This mornings run was solid. 18.4 mile in 2:19. Couldn't quite nail marathon pace over the last hr but most of my miles were strong in the low 7's. Feeling good today. Looking forward to weekend workouts and getting ready for the IM CHOO camp next week!
  • Swim set this evening: 4200m

    2 x 50m easy
    20 x 200m (15") at IM intensity
    2 x 50m easy
  • A great 102 mile Century Ride today; 6,579 ft of ascent; Ride time of 5:41. Nutrition went well. I'm feeling a big confidence boost in that I ended the ride feeling fairly good and the legs still had a lot of bounce in them. Total IF for the ride was 81%.
