Garmin 310XT

This watch has become affordable and I hear Coach P uses it for all 3 disciplines. Comments before I buy one? On thing that worries me is that I have tiny wrists.

  • Hi Jodi

I have an xt310 and love it, particularly for the run.

It is a bit big and clunky but the screen is big as a consequence, so I can easily read 4 separate fields on screen 1 (and 2 on screen 2) (important for me because of failing eyesight of a 62 year old).

The wrist strap can accommodate any (and I mean any) sized wrist.

I have used it on the bike as a Power Tap head unit but now use a Joule 2.0. I got the Joule because it was a PITA looking at it on my wrist (I never used a quick release mechanism because I had heard that it wasn't very secure) and I wanted real time lap NP and lap IF which the xt310 doesn't have.

BTW, a couple of months ago I dropped it and cracked the screen but Garmin replaced it for $130 (I think. It might have been $120?).

    Happy to answer any questions?
  • Jodi,

I have a 310XT and love it.  I've never had the 910 though.  I have very small wrists for a guy, and it fits fine.  It has tons of holes alll the way around.  It is bigger than the 910 though.  I like the size of the screen, as I can display 4 screens at once.  I only use it on the run, though, as I have an 810 for the bike.  I think it's worth the $.  My wife has the new Garmin 220 running watch....I think the 310XT is much better (quicker pace adjustments, bigger screen, etc.) and it's cheaper (and can be used for more than running).

  • Thanks, guys. I think I may get it. The 910 is out of my budget. Like Peter, I need the bigger screen to see the numbers. Is it difficult to learn to use it? I currently swim with an old timex ironman watch, then use a wired powermeter on the bike, then use a garmin 10 on the run. I doubt I will use it much on the bike, but would love to have one watch for the whole ironman. Plus, after Chattanooga, I hope to do some ultras and need a watch that goes for many, many hours
  • It is quite easy to learn how to use it.
The advertised endurance time is around 20 hours.
You can (I think) get the wired PT converted so the Garmin could also be used on the bike (and swim).
  • I've got a used 310XT with cadence sensors, HR strap and all I will let go for cheap..... I'm using a Polar V800 now. I also have the bike mount, quick disconnect kit etc. I really did like the 310 but it is bulky compared to the newer watches. It works fabulously though. It's never been in an ocean or lake. I was always worried about it falling off the quick disconnect wristband.
  • Have used the 310 for three years and it's a great value. Sure the 910 can do more, but it comes at a much higher price tag that I just cannot justify. Garmin's been good about support even after the warranty has expired. Highly recommend it.
  • @Anthony,

I am interested in the 310. I am going to take a break from triathlon for a while and going to do some ultras. I am assuming the battery life is pretty long? What do you want for it?
