IMCHOO Training Wk 8/18 - 8/24

Hello Awesome EN'rs! Hope you've all had awesome training days this past week! I think today we all are super proud of our teammates at IMMT- Make sure to give them extra love on the dashboard and on FB if you're friends with them there. One of the best things about EN is how we always support, always look out for and always send mojo to our fellow teammates!

I had the privilege of meeting Liz Jackson at a triathlon today (where she placed first in her AG- CONGRATS LIZ) We had a little time to chat about IMCHOO since she is racing also, and I was reminded that camp is coming up (almost slipped by me)

If you're headed to camp remember to bring back all the info you learned for everyone who can't make it, I will be starting a camp thread for you to put your CHOO knowledge in there.

If you're on Twitter- Instagram- FB please post and tag Endurance Nation at camp- we want to continue to grow our team and the best way to do that is to let the world know.

Have a great week everyone!

  • Long run today of 16 miles. Got it done but it got hot last 5 miles.
    Everyone have a great week.
  • Was pretty sick most of last week. Ended up going to the doc on tuesday. Diagnosed with urinary tract infection and prescribed antibiotics. Was hot/cold , sweating/shivering , total body ached, not too mention issues (more than the normal 52 year old male) going to the bathroom... Felt better by friday morning.... Was in Mont Tremblant thurs-mon and got in some training but it was all in the rain and the quality was low....

Today feeling good and inspired by watching the team crush IMMT I got back after it.
    1.5 mile OWS with 2 x 1/2 mile intervals hard http://connect.garmin.com/activity/568802222#
    2hr bike with 2 x 21' @ .96 then remainder RPP http://connect.garmin.com/activity/569068434#
4 mile progressive pace brick run http://connect.garmin.com/activity/569036084

Come on peeps.... wake up .... we got 4 weeks of work then taper.... time for discipline ! Don't blink we'll be inline race morning before you know it!
  • @Tim -- sorry to hear you were sick but glad you are on the mend. Good week for me last week after taking it easy Monday and Tuesday w sore throat/cold. 109 bike on Sat, 18 mile run Thursday both went well.
    I'm somewhat tired at the beginning of this week -- trying to be in good shape for the camp this weekend;
Got in a good 4200 yd swim today and plan on swim race rehearsal on Thursday.
Need to make written plan for Friday 112/6 and will post in forum when I get it done.

Tim is right -- Were in the home stretch here. 4 weeks of work, 2 weeks taper and then its ON! I think were going to have a strong team toe the line in Chattanooga.
  • Stay healthy everyone! Rest up Tim. I know another EN IMCHOO athlete who just got sick too. image

Nice swim workout after work today:
    4 x 50m easy pace
    10 x......[75m IM pace + 25m all out]
    3 x 500m IM pace

Yes, only 4 weeks of hard work left image
  • Is anyone else in that mentally funky place yet? I am struggling with tons of negative thoughts and self doubt. Can't find the joy in training that I usually have. Hoping camp this weekend will help. Maybe a good kick in the pants from Coach Rich will help.

On a good note, I swam the course this weekend and it's going to be wicked fast! I was 24 minutes faster than my IMAZ swim and the locals that put the swim on said there wasn't much of a current Saturday and they expect that it will be flowing faster on race day.

If there is anyone going to camp this weekend be prepared for some uncomfortable heat. They are forecasting heat index's in the triple digits :-(
  • Time to turn my head from IMMT to IMChatt! Still in recovery mode this week....feeling better every day but working through some stuff with the doc as the side/stomach pain I had during MT is STILL THERE. Possibly not nutrition-related during the race. Hoping for the all-clear to jump back into easy training next week to test out the legs and get them moving again.
Kinda nice not getting up at 4am everyday for this week at least. :-)
Excited to get on board with all of you amazing people!

One quick request - since we just got back into town Monday night, I definitely can't swing a camp this weekend. I am hoping that Coach Rich will post up the talks that happen at camp so I can get more familiar with the course. I did ride sections of it back in April, but it's all kinda fuzzy now. I do remember Hog Jowl. Who can forget THAT name? :-)
  • Kori,
Didnt realize you were doing the IM double. Great to have you in the group! I'm sure there will be several writeup posted concerning the bike course and run course. I plan to do a detailed write up for the team as well as post Ride data file. There is also a CHOO Strava group where people post training files -- I'll put rides from both days in there.
Hope you get recovered and feel better!
  • @Amy - Yes, I've had that feeling lately but have all but kept it to myself. Mine seems to stem from having to miss workouts for one reason or another and becoming frustrated over that. This week has been better so that's a positive. I live in SC so the heat and humidity are nothing new but I'm still prepping for the those conditions. They will beat you down physically and mentally. I was hoping the forecast would change to slightly cooler but it doesn't look like it.

I had to skip my long bikes this weekend.  I had some issue with saddle sores that needed some much needed healing and relief so I chose to do that over having a miserable camp week.

Monday- Got my swim in. My form is improving thankfully and I'm seeing small gains with each swim. I started having a tightness on the rear of my right shoulder near the end of that swim but didn't think much of it....until my tues swim.

Tues - 2x1's early in the morning and then I swam later in the afternoon. I ran for a total of 50 min. I lost 3lbs during that 50 min run! Geez it was way more humid than I thought. Good run though and looking forward to seeing the course this week.

Back to that shoulder. I must have pulled/strained something during mondays swim. I cut my tues swim to 40 min due to the that. Overall though, it was still a positive swim for me even with the pain. I hoping that focusing on my form the last few weeks will continue to help me improve.

  • Agree with Tim, we've got some work to do the next 4 weeks! I did a solid 3600 yard swim Monday morning, started my 2x1 run yesterday evening only to get rained out 20 minutes into it, 65 minutes on the trainer this a.m., and planning on an hour run tonight. I can't execute the Camp week this weekend so i'm bumping my long run up to Thursday, swim Friday, and 6hr/1hr brick Saturday. Let's go people!!
  • @Amy... My thoughts are to take 1 day off, spend a few hours on the computer ready motivational quotes or youtube video's.... Finish up by reviewing IMLP and IMMT EN race plans and reports to get you pumped up.... Take a few minutes to think about how much time , energy , money , and how long you have been waiting for this day... Then develop a plan to maximize your training , nutrition , and recovery for the next 5.5 weeks that fit into your life.... You owe it to yourself to see this thing through with authority! Finally get active on the board , post some wko's , hold yourself accountable, ask questions , etc..... Its not a competition , its all about support and mojo! You got this! YOU can do anything for 5 more weeks.

    long easy swim this am

    track wko w/3 x 1 @ Z5 and full recoveries

Planning an fairly easy day tomorrow , and then a mini 2 day taper for a REV3 OOB HIM on Sunday.... after that 2 weeks of some volume before taper time!
  • @Tim - thanks buddy. Those are sound words of advice :-)
  • I hope everyone had a good RR swim today and has all their prep done for tomorrow's big day and subsequent big days to follow.

I did my RR swim today and improved about 4:20 over the same distance RR from IMFL 2 years ago. Not in the same league as all the fish in the haus but a slow improvement nevertheless so I'm happy with it.

It is that time for me as well but I'm pushing self-doubt thoughts aside about not being prepped enough especially on the run and hearing all the positive mojo is certainly helping. Trying to nail the plan as written, sleeping more - at least for me - and watching what I shovel in my mouth will hopefully put me in the right place. So let's keep the mojo going this race is right around the corner!

Hope to see some great reports in the next couple of days plus updates from all our campers hanging out with Coach Rich.

    Good luck to all.
  • Wednesday enjoyed a very up tempo 10K run. Missed my favorite Wed evening pain cave cycling session as I was participating in back to school parent night.

Thursday did same 10K run route but slowed it down to IM pace; I was feeling fatigue in the legs along with very tight calves.

Thursday evening got in long swim:

    2 x 50m wu

    2 x 2000m (15")

    2 x 50m cd

Due to my scheduling, my RR cycling and brick run will occur this coming Monday. I will use everyone else's RRs as motivation for my solo adventure Monday. Saturday I am racing in a local triathlon.

  • First day of camp was great. Race execution discussion last night as well as Chattanooga course specifics -- hills, climbing etc. Dinner last night at Mellow Mushroom.

I got in my RR swim at a local Y before camp started. Swam the 4200 in 1:09 which was a little slower than expected but my first 4200 yd straight in over 4 years so I can't complain. Had to stop 2x to work cramps out of my calves. I held a better pace for about 3000 yds then fell off in the last 1/4. Several more of those on the schedule though in the next few weeks to build some more swim endurance.
Riding the whole course today and will try to get in a run if I get back to hotel before it gets crazy hot outside ( Hi temp if forecast for low to mid 90's) Hope to run at least 3 or so.
  • @Attila congrats on your swim RR improvements.... 4 min is huge

@Mark looking forward to details from the camp!

yesterday 5 mile easy run EP+40 sec , 1.5hr easy bike IF .76
Today big swim , 1st lap hard then next 2 laps easy http://connect.garmin.com/activity/571005355#
  • Got to have some fun today; actually raced a local triathlon.
1 mile ocean swim, 34 mile bike, 10 mile run. Got 16th in AG.
Sunday will just be a relaxed lengthy swim for me; gotta rest the legs. My RR cycling adventure occurs on Monday.
