Short Course Week of Aug 18-25
Great EN performances by coach P, JW and a large group of all stars this weekend!
College drop off this weekend cut into my training and a pothole cut my Sun Ride a bit short but overall, Glad to be lloking at a new week of training.
Thinking about gettin a garmin edge 500 for the biike since my polarized shades make it hard for these old eyes to read the 910 on my wrist. We'll see.
What's up with the rest of the SC crowd?

I've been doing the striders, but seem to be having a problem with my stride count being too low. Coach R said 80-90 in 1 minute, and I've been in the 50's to 70's. Perhaps it could be from being off for nearly 7 months?
Re: fatigue - I am going to my dr on Thursday. I am going to have him order full blood work - I am hypothyroid and I am wondering if my meds need an adjustment. Will keep you all posted.
Have a great Monday! I am looking forward to my swim tonight!
@Elizabeth- Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate them.
Not sure what this week is going to bring. My head is not in a training frame of mind. But we will see. 2 weeks to go time again. Gotta get moving, moving, moving .........
How about you guys? I'm finding myself feeling pretty crispy around the edges motivation wise.
@ Ralph- Congratulations!!!! How wonderful for your family. Don't forget the kleenex. You do have unlimited calling, Right?
I'll tell you guys. Some people are just plain idiots. Yesterday, at work, some bone head called a bomb threat in to the hospital I work at. Nice. Talk about take your stress up to new heights. It's not the first time. We have actually had a pipe bomb in administrations bathroom a couple years ago. Now, what do you do when you know there's a bomb under your floor and can't move your peeps? Lots of praying. *SIGH*. Man am I tired. I'm having a hard time relaxing. I've canned 6 quarts of tomato sauce, 5 pints of applesauce, washed and folded 4 loads of laundry, dusted the entire house, changed all the beds, washed the dogs, mowed the lawn, disappointed my daughter all by 11 am. Hopefully tonight I can get some sleep.
Thanks for listening.

Finally in full swing of the SC plan. I did IM Canada 3 weeks ago, and it looks like I am finally back in the game. Last week I did whatever I could. This week the workouts just got a little harder. Ran a 10K PR on Sunday, new Vdot =50. Todays run after work was brutal after doing the bike at 5am this morning. I am in wk 17 , getting ready for the Atlantic City Tri ( international distance 1mi/20mi/6.2mi) on 9/14.
Looks like it is just a run focus this week if I am lucky. Hate it when works gets in the way!
I noticed only the Sunday run is marked as important. Which midweek runs does everyone prioritize. I did the Tuesday run ( 22' zn3, 22' zn4) yesterday and my legs are sore today. No way I can do the 60' run today that includes zn5 intervals. Last week , I did the wednesday run and skipped the Tuesday run. Does anyone do these hard runs back to back?
Well todays get faster run was hard! 3x1mi z4-5. But the good news. I negative upped and finished with a 9:14 mile. Fastest ever!!!
I am 2 weeks out from my Best in the West sprint event. I think my run is going to be a little bit faster. .
Well I think I just experienced my first electrolyte induced cramp. Problem was I was 30 miles from home. Long slow spin home. OUCH.
QUESTION: What kind of salt tab/electrolyte tabs do you guys use? I know coach doesn't like bonk breackers. What else is out there? I have to be careful with the sodium because I have high blood pressure. Thanks everyone.
@ cousin Jackie, the core nutrition talk suggest saltstick tabs.

@Joe - I'm with you on the work thing. I got home from work at 11 pm yesterday and today ain't looking too good so far.
@ Cousin Ralph- Sorry your day sounds like it's getting rough. Thank you for the advice. I hope you find a rainbow some where in your day.
Today is my Grandma funeral. Sigh. I can't go. To far, so i'm going to fill my kitchen with little girls and bake bread, apple pie and who knows what else. Just like she did when I was little. She loved kids.
Have a wonderful day pursueing your dreams everyone. We're so fortunate to have one another threw thick and thin.
Oh Elizabeth, thank you. The girls have totally trashed my kitchen. The pies in the oven. There's flour and apple drippings all over the floor. LOL. Giggles are abundant.
@Jacklyn, sorry to hear about your grandma.
Regarding the electrolytes, I use S-caps for long training rides. It has 341mg of sodium. For shorter workout days, such as 2-3 hr rides I will supplement using Hammerhead Endurolytes or GU Roctane electrolytes. I dont have a preference between the last 2 mentioned, but use them because of less sodium content on days when I dont need to supplement as much.
Thank you Jan.
I think i'm ready for battle. My swim is strong and smooth. My bike is solid and my run is getting there. I've started hitting the 9:30 per mile window this week. But a little problem has popped up. I washed my 3 dogs this morning my back spasmed and now i'm walking around like a 90 year old lady with a cane. NOT good timing. With a little rest and stretching I should be ok. Might not make my 5k run next Saturday though. Oh well.
Well, my back is feeling better. Going swimming tonight. Planning on a slow gentle brick run tomorrow. Probably not going to do the ordered hills.
Ok. My TJ arm band arrived. I can't get it to stay put. Any ideas? I'm thinking rubber cement on the back might help. I could staple it to by tri shorts too.
I just finished my third course of eye drops for my "pink eye" junk. Lets see how long it takes to come roaring back and make me miserable. Just got back from my doctor. At least I can culture it now when it comes back. Just in time for NW championships.
On a brighter side. It's a beautiful day. My hubs is out riding his bike. I think i'm going to go for a walk. Have a lovely day everyone.
