B2B Week of Aug 18-25

OK,

College drop off Friday and Sat for the girls so no training until Sunday.

My bike was hotter than usual and I was out of Perform so I tried to make do with Gatrorade and no gels (out of those too).  Did the long Sat ride since I missed and was starting to poop out about 3.5 house in with poor nutrition and all when I dropped the front wheel in a pothole and went over the bars.  Pushed the bars down and bent my rear derailleur so it hit the spokes in the lowest gear.  Loosened the stem clamp and fixed the bars, pulled on the derailleur and straightened it out and kept on going.  Minimal road rash and no holes in my new kit.  dodged the bullet there.

Lessons learned :

1. if you have a nutrition plan that works, stick with it.  I will just be a pack mule with 5 bottles on race day rather than retrain with HEED.  It won't make much difference in my 6.5 hour bike split and assuming I live to race another IM, I will pick one with the appropriate on-course nutrition.

2. Watch where you are riding.

  • So, I listened to the Core nutrition talk on the wiki again and I am more firmly convinced of my decision to stick with Perform and just lug the bottles and refill at the bike special needs. I have to say, though it sure makes the bike a bit heavier, like 10 lbs.

Swam Monday. ended up doing it late in the day which was pretty good except for sweating all through dinner.

Tuesday early Run, didn't quite make my Z4 pace but did make the temp corrected pace so I will count that. Bagged the PM swim because it was my birthday.

This AM, 2 miles to the gym, train for 30 min, 2 miles home, Bike FTP intervals 10 min and 12 min, walked the dogs 2 miles and off to work.

Long run tomorrow. Hope my Perform gets here soon.
  • So, Long run got put off on Thursday and Had to clean out the garage Friday (in 95 degree heat) Today was going to be Big training day but work gor in the way so I squeezed in 11 miles before work and will RIde long tomorrow.

On the bright side, my supply of Perform showed up. SO at least I can work on my nutrition plan while I ride long tomorrow.

How is everyone else's training going?
