Kevin's HIM SuperFrog Plan - Lost the race in T1

After analyzing my first podium finish I realized that I lost the race by taking more time in T1 than I ever have in the past.

The first place dude beat me by 8 minutes out of the water and by the time I was off on the bike I was 10 minutes down. I matched him on the bike and took back 8 minutes on the 10K, but lost by the margin I left in T1.

So how did I go wrong on the rookie decision? Should I have strapped the chest strap on under my wetsuit? (or would that have killed it?) By the way I didn't use the heart rate information the whole race. I was high zone 3, to 4 or 5 most of the race.

The most important question is what do I do for the HIM A race next month?

Thanks for the help!

  • 1. PRACtiCE your transitions! There is advice (topic starts with Transition) in the wiki. And you can search youtube for videos of experts showing you how to shave time.

    2. I always wear my HRM from the gitgo, meaning under my wetsuit, salt or fresh water. Never any problems with that over 15 years.
