70.3 Augusta - WK 16 - Week Of 08/25

Comments

  • I attended the IMChoo camp this past weekend.
Even though I'm not doing it, I wanted to meet Coach Rich and some of the others on the team and suck in the knowledge from the talks and get some big training on my legs.
It was a blast. There were about 20 of us there and we trained and talked triathlon from Thursday night until Sunday morning.
I did crash my bike (for the first time) at mile 80 of the day 1 ride....lost concentration and drifted off the road into the grass and BAM!
I broke a spoke on my rear wheel and it was wobbly, but I was able to get to the next rest stop (9 miles later) and called it a day.
It was very hot out there...mid 90's with a heat index of over 100 (I'm guessing).
One of the guys loaned me a rear wheel for Saturday's ride - I did one loop of the course (about 50 miles) and a short brick run after.
Then on Sunday, we did our long run. I completed one loop of the course (about 13 miles) for my longest run ever.
All in all, a great weekend. Highly recommended.
  • We did a great ride in Charleston this weekend while dropping off our son at the Citadel. While it was flat...it was windy which was challenging. Lovely 2 hr ride Sunday!
  • @Don - congrats on going to Choo Camp. I am looking at that IM for next year. Let us know any pointers you picked up that could help us in Augusta.

@Margaret - great work while travelling! Charleston is a great place to bike.

I got in 42 mi on hte bike and 5 k run on Sat and 30 mi on bike at 5k run on Sun.

Anyone else want to chime in this week? I cannot believe we are 5 weeks out now!

  • Got a 27 mike bike ride in today - glad to have my 11-28 cassette back! Rocking and rolling!
  • Got my 2 hour progressive run in today - still working on new zones - 13.1 miles in 1:59 - switched nutrition today and it worked really well - 2 bottles of perform and 2 gels.
  • Great run Thomas....sounds like you're ready!
Yesterday, for the first time ever, I developed a painful cramp in my left calf.
I had to stop at 1:30 and walk back.
I rolled it out when I got home and it feels normal now.
It wasn't a lack of sodium...I was on track with Perform and gels.
    Weird
  • @Don - it's always a good thing when our body gives us feedback. All our training is an exercise of tweaking for the race. How have you been resting/recovering in between workouts? Fortunately, one workout does not a pattern make. Keep us posted this week on the Thursday run.

My ankle was a little sore today and I have not been getting enough rest overr the past week - i opted to sleep in today and skipped the run - did 38 miles on the bike today. Plan to get another 40 in tomorrow and a 4 mile run.
  • I got my ride in bit time constrains kept me short on the run. Plantar fasciitis is killing me too! Hope to make it up tomorrow and pull another long workout on Monday since it's a holiday!!!
  • @thomas I've been flowingthe plan with no extra off days except for Monday after IM Choo camp
    I don't feel like I'm too tired.
Leg feels normal - I skipped the run today and did 50 miles on the bike
  • 3 hours of flywheel spin class followed by 30 min run! I learned a valuable lesson. If I eat 100 calls per hr a one Nuun per hour I am not miserable when I run. I am so hard headed.. Was starving myself And wondered why I felt like crap on the run. Dumb surgeon!!
  • Hi Margarett.......I am a new member [2 days] and too late to train with you guys for Augusta but thought you had posted a training RR #2 in the next wk or two, for Augusta.  If I am correct, would it be possible for details as I would be interested in joining for part or all of this.  I live in Auburn/Opelika, Al and could drive over.  This is my first 70.3 and I know nothing of the course.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

  • Mac I think Thomas Jones, our race captain was planning on driving to Augusta to do the course for his race rehearsal next week. Check the precious posts. I think he was going over on Thursday and doing the ride on Friday. I did the course a few weeks ago when there was a Ride for a Cause that covered the Augusta Course. Don Nowakowski wrote a nice review of that in the blogs as well so look for that. Are you doing Augusta? I just tore my plantar fascia today so I will be doing it in a boot but I have put so much time and effort into training that I will crawl the 13.1 miles if I have to to finish! Welcome to the group! Hope to see you in Augusta!
  • Don Nowak. Ha ha my autocorrect got pretty creative!
  • @Margarett.... Thanks much for the info and very sorry to hear about your injury. Best of luck on your recovery and yes I will be doing Augusta with a few members from our local James Bros Multisports Team. Will be looking forward to meeting you.

@Thomas....I am a new member[2 days] and doing my 1st 70.3 in Augusta this month. I was interested in learning more of the course and heard you or others may have a training session this weekend in Augusta? If so, would it be possible for me to join all or part of it? Thanks very much.

    Mac
