De Soto Riveria Tri short vs Forza

Has anyone raced in the Riveria tri short?  I have the EN shorts and like them, but am thinking I need some pockets for Salt tabs, gels, etc for IM Chattanooga.  I train in the Forza 4 pocket tri short, but there is also the Riveira trishort which has 2 pockets.  Both come in a  Red which is close to EN colors.

Has anyone raced in the Riviera shorts?  Are the pockets big enough and in comfortable position for the "change purse" with Salt tabs? I have a Salt stick dispenser that I could attach to aerobars, but would rather carry them on me and not risk losing them over any of the many railroad crossings on the Chattanooga course.

  • I've only had the Forza. One note however, I ordered the red forza's and it wasn't even close to the EN red. I sent them back.
  • Coach P -- What shorts did you wear in Tremblant? They looked like the Desoto Riveria.
  • Don't know.

I always race in Desoto Bibs.      Tri or Bike.       each has nice pocket down the back.       as i remember, the Tri ones have side pockets too.

I tuck in the bib portion during the run, if I am using the Tri.

  • I like the tri bibs too -- never thought about running in them because of the straps but havent tried just tucking them in. Bibs also prevent lower back sunburn!
  • I just sl the straps down my arms while running out of T2, letting them dangle at my hips while I run. Same thing woem do when they take a bra off without taking off their shirt (blouse?)
  • late to the party...I use the Desoto Riviera tri shorts for all tri training (s/b/r) and racing. Love em!

Shorts, like most everything else we deal with, is such a personal choice, that can only be vetted by miles in the saddle (or in the pool, or on the run/treadmill).
  • I ordered a pair too close to race day to try them out. I had a real problem with chafing from a pair of cycling bibs and was hoping the Riviera's would help out. I'll know in a couple of weeks. They are snug though.
  • OK, Forza vs Riviera. Two big differences. (1) Forza pad is 4 mm thick, Riviera is 7 mm; (2) Forza legs (inseam) are 1.5" longer than Riviera. For both those reasons, I prefer the Forza. The thicker pad is more irritating to me; the thinner one is less apparent when running. And the longer inseam means more compression in the quads, which I like for both the run and bike legs of an IM.

  • Thanks for all the input! I typically prefer the thinner pad as well and have done well with both the forza shorts and bibs
