Mandy Post IM races? :-)

I haven't done a true Season Road map yet for  2015.

Wanted to know your thoughts since I just completed IM Louisville 24 August.

I would like to do a sprint tri 13 Sept and 20 Sept. Theses are both 750m S, 20m B, 5k R.

Would also like to do the Rev 3 Half or an Ultra 50K 11 Oct. Are either of these doable? Thoughts? Guidance?

Thanks,

Mandy Midgett

  • Mandy -- You can have all the fun you want. But the longer stuff is a bigger question. It depends on what you did this season (how deep did you dig?) and how the race went down. My only hesitation is that a poorly placed event, esp 50k, could really hurt your 2015 ambitions.

Can you get me more info on this year and what you are thinking of for 2015?
  • Good morning-

I am ok skipping the 50k and will go with the REV3 Half since it's 11 Oct, and I have never done there events. I would like to give it a whirl.

Dec 8 is a half marathon and then I would like to do the Honolulu Marathon 14 Dec since I have an opportunity to go out there cheaply.

For 2015 the primary goal/A race is IM Lake Placid. I would love to break 12 hours. I would also like an early season C race half IM just to get in a race. I'm not sure of dates yet since some of them have not been published. I am willing to take suggestions for the East Coast area :-) Would prefer hilly versus flat though in order to get ready for Placid.

I need to work on my run and bike to achieve the sub-12 goal. Therefore, I am willing to do what is needed to set myself up well for this.

As for IMLOU. I trained as best I could within the 15 weeks I had for training. Did I go as hard as possible at the race, no, I do not think so since the main goal was getting the unfinished business done in the hot weather. I am still tired from the race a week later and have been enjoying the downtime. I've allowed myself this week to enjoy not working out. I intend to get back on the transition schedule tomorrow, Monday, 1 Sept.

    Anxiously awaiting guidance :-)

  • Mandy you'll need to do a modified HIM plan that you carry through to the marathon in Honolulu. Then we go 2 weeks off before the OutSeason (Jan to mid-April) before we transition again. Rev3 Quassy is about as hilly as it gets out here and is our key race before Lake Placid.

Right now you need to keep the recovery going minimum one more week. You could load up the HIM plan to end on Oct 11 starting on 9/8 but even then just do that first week for time not effort --- check in with me at the end of this week!!
  • Hey Patrick,

    Checking in :-)

I did the recovery run last Thursday and felt way better than I should!! Fortunately, I know that happens and was able to talk myself out of signing up for any craziness. I did the swim portion of an Olympic relay yesterday. Not sure if the swim is long or if I am just consistent! I know I swam as hard as I could for my teammates and was within a few seconds of my time last year when I did the race individually!!

It's been a lazy but somewhat productive past 14 days since IMLOU:-) I've enjoyed, my body has enjoyed, and my dog has LOVED it!! LOL.

As Rich outlined I will begin week 15 of the HIM Intermediate plan tomorrow. I am ready. I will take it as easy per your guidance!

Enjoyed watching World's today as a buddy moved from 51st to 5th on the bike!! WOW!! Ultimately took 9th in his AG...still amazing!!

    Hope all is well-
    Mandy
