Short Course Week of Aug 31-Sept 6
Good to see Joe back in the house, We have been missing you.
Lots of great stuff going on this week Hope everybody's races went well. We want to hear about them.
Not much to add about my weekend, moving, moving, moving. Packing boxes out the wazoo. Did squeeze in a 92 mile ride on Sunday which was kind of nice. Loading up the first truckload for Winston-Salem this Friday so unlikely to get another long ride any time soon. Oh well.

Final race of the year is Saturday. My how time flies. I am totally excited. Hoping to meet David there. It's a whole weekend of tri. Everyday is some concoction of the 3. I am so ready to do battle! I feel good about my swim, proud of my ride and looking forward to crushing the run.
@ Cuz Ralph- Have fun moving. What a great adventure. New place, new people, new roads to explore. Nice.
@Ralph - moving and training for the Beach to Battleship. My oh my, your plate is full. Oh yeah, new job as well. Stress level a bit high? I did an IRONMAN after I did the move and new job, not during. You've got a lot of determination - more than me! Do you have a dog? It would have helped me. The later you come home, the happier the dog is.
By mistake, I put my race report in the last week's thread. It was basically a really well executed race. Figure I have certainly posted a few bad ones in the past 20 years, so a good one should be okay. You'd think since it was triathlon #100, I would finally get it right!
Keep the posts coming! Season is closing and those still competing and training need all the mojo they can get!
The swim, was, in a word, weird. I made a split second decision not to swim with a wetsuit due to lake temp sitting at 72, and the morning was warming up fast. The swim was to be .47 miles, but my garmin clocked it at .93 miles, and my time would be more indicative of what my mile swim would look like vs a .5 mile swim. There was traffic as my AG swam with the guys, but I felt that I overcame that well, and settled into my own zone of water as best as possible.
The transition from the swim exit to T1 was evil for my foot, and it was nearly .25 miles! ZIKES! I stayed on the grass and avoided the gravel as much as possible.
T1 - I sat down (and tried to pee to no avail!), put my helmet, sunglasses, socks and shoes and headed out the door. This was another looooong run-ish to the bike mount line. Hopped on, followed my cue sheet, watched my gearing, pacing, eating, drinking and felt I executed an excellent bike. I forgot to hit lap on the garmin, but could see that I was at 3.33 to 3.35 per mile, which is where I wanted to be. I paid attention to cadence and felt I kept that where it should be. At the bike dismount line, it was another looong slog to the timing mat, which is where I think I lost time, because I swear I did not feel I was doing 15.36MPH. When I did my RR on the course, I was at 16.6 and last year, I hit 17.3, so I have no clue what went wrong.
T2 - Sat down again, dropped bike shoes, put on running shoes, dropped helmet, tried to pee and headed out the door. I knew this was going to be difficult for me as I have been injured since January and have kept mileage low and doing lots more volume on bike and swim, including pool running. No speed work for me this season. So, my garmin showed my pace at 9.12, while final results showed 9.46's. Last year I was at 8.11's so I really tried to let that pace go. My official finish time is close to my garmin time, so I think this is a write off to timing mat hell.
Overall, given the circumtances, I think I did okay. I netted 5th in my new AG, which with my finish time, would be top 20, but all the zippy women must have been elsewhere. There is a friend who I know has stalked my results and wants to beat me, so I can chalk this one up and keep her in the dark and hope to hell I get healthy for next season so that she has no chance to beat me.
I know what EN training did for me in 8 weeks last year, so I need to keep the lights on and know better things are coming.
I am going to x-post this to Coach P who has been a HUGE cheerleader for me and has worked really hard to keep things in perspective for me.
Looking forward to hearing about everyone's races this weekend!
Thanks for listening!
Beth
