Stop Signs, Intersections and Tickets on Raceday

Looks like we all should practice braking quickly and starting -- According to this article, traffic rules will be enforced in walker County Georgia and police will be on hand not to wave cyclists through and hold traffic, but to give tickets to cyclist who don't obey all traffic laws (stop signs and red lights).  It will be intresting to see if they actually do this and mandate a stop at intersections.

  • I was reading the comments on the IMCHOO FB page and some of those people have lost their minds! lol I'm pretty sure all intersections would be controlled, just like any other race don't you think?
  • It would be a major fail on the part of WTC znd the RD to not have everything squared away with all local law enforcement prior to the race. I've never seen a race in my life where participants were expected to stop at intersections. That's a deal breaker for this event IMO. If the local area doesn't want a week worth if $ influx from upper middle class people then WTC should take it elsewhere.
  • More than likely this will be squared away by race day. Seems like all the people training on the course over the summer have pissed off the local residents. Hopefully the police threatening to give cyclists tickets was just them trying to calm down the locals.
  • Holy crap. That's gotta be a misquote/misunderstanding on the part the reporter? NO. WAY. they will not have the intersections controlled and will be expecting athletes to stop on race day.
  • Make sure to put your driver's license in your bento box.....ridiculous!!!
