Michael Johnson's IM>Ultra>IM plan

So I am entered the Rocky 50 (50miler) Ultramarathon 2/7/15 in TX. Next race is possibly a 24 Adventure race in midApril '15, then IM Boulder 8/15. 

Will essentially be doing the EN Wiki plan the Patrick put up in 2013. 

Plan on swimming 3x/wk 2-3k ea, and the running will be 5x/wk of up to 50miles/wk.

Question is the biking. Just maintain some minimal bike fitness (so I don't feel too guilty) was to do 2 bikes/week maybe just 1-1.5hr doing maybe 30-40 minutes of Z3-4 work each time. 

Thoughts....how much would you recommend biking. My plan sound ok?

  • They cycling sounds fine but I'd make it no more than an hour per session and very, very hard. Think a 45' trainer ride as 10' WU, 30' of very hard intervals, 5' CD.
    Not sure if swimming is worth the admin cost, unless you're look at that as recovery from the running?
  • Yes. Rich, swimming is just recovery . It's literally 5min from work and don't think it will affect running at all! Thx
