Podium Finally (OK, it was a sprint relay but still a podium!)

Short race so I'll make this a short report. Did the bike portion of a sprint tri today and got 3rd out of 19 teams. #1 on the bike for relays and bike was 19th overall. What is weird is that I biked harder than last year (NP of 170 vs 163) but was a little slower this year. (37:56 vs 37:08). It was a little windy and my ranking across the bike splits is about the same, but a few less peeps this year. Last year i did the whole race so i prob had more even watts so maybe i biked smarter last year and this year, just let it rip!   I was in the aerobars 98% of the time and used my aerodrink instead of bottles, so I really thought I'd be faster vs. LY.  Not sweating it though.. Had a blast and happy to podium!

  • Great feeling. Probably (a) steadier ride and (b) better position on the bike. Makes a difference.

  • Good work Kim.
Actually AP is what propels you down the road, whereas NP is how tired you got pushing that AP.
So, how does AP compare this year to last year?
  • AP last year was 154. This year was 159.
  • Thanks Kim.
Obviously you being slightly slower wasn't because of lower power.
That leaves position (as Al says), wind and/or tyres/tubes.
  • Nice work Kim (again). The wind is a tricky thing, and is likely what slowed you down a bit. Regarding the "finally" part, I thought I remembered you winning your AG in a bike TT before...
  • Peter- Yeah, I got to thinking and remembered I recently changed from "slicks" to "bulletproof" tires after a series of flats recently so let's go with a wind/tire combo as the cause. I feel like if anything, position this year was more aero.

John- LOL That's because I was the only female so calling that a podium was more of a joke, but technically, yes. image
  • Podium is podium. Take it. :-)
