B2B week of Sept 7-13

So,

First U-Haul truck load to Winston this weekend.  Did about a 80 min run and gotta love those HILLS.  Forgot what those were like.  Swim today if the lightning lets up then we will see what the week holds.  Is it just me or does time seem to be moving more quickly as the race day approaches?

  • Things are moving VERY quickly!  Especially since I have to move all my weeks a bit and will be out of town for the last two weeks of Sept.

Question- I bought a trainer and am wondering whether I should take my tri bike and hope nothing happens to it in transit in 4 airplanes.  Or take my road bike with aerobars for just those two weeks.  I was leaning toward the latter.  My power meter is not on that bike, and I REALLY don't feel like swapping out stuff to get it on there.  But I think I can use HR and feel to still get in quality rides those two weeks.

    Whatchoo think??

  • @leslie I would personally only ride on my bike bc of fit, saddle, PM, proximity to race day etc But that is just me, I have a monkey load of issues with my back and can't afford to train on anything that I won't be racing on
  • Mariah,  Both bikes are my bikes and I've been fitted to both of them for aero.  I rode my road bike for 5 yrs before I got my tri bike.  Now she's been neglected....

I'm headed to the garage now to see if tri bike fits trainer and case.

  • @leslie- Right, I just meant like I ride my road bike completely different than I ride my TT bike so like even now I haven't touched my road bike all season bc I want to be comfortable on what I'm riding, but again, I have a titanium rod in my spine and multiple issues from my crash so the littlest change can mean injury to me, so with that being said, i think whatever gives you the most peace of mind and what you feel will help your B2B day be all you want it to be.
  • Oh, right.  That makes sense.  Well...I just went out and determined that I would need to swap out the skewer on my back wheel to use the tri bike on the trainer.  And now I'm freaked out about damage in transit or crashing in DC.  Road bike it is!  I'll swap out my saddle for my tri saddle- it's amazing the difference between the Adamo Prologue (on my road) and Road (on my tri).  A friend tried both and chose the Prologue for her tri bike. Weird.  But after about 50 miles, it is definitely no comfortable.

Thanks for the advice...great to have folks to go to!

  • just went all the way to wilmington to do my RR for 26 miles- knee blew up and i was on the side of the road in tears. no clue what to do but i came home- drove the course at least- looks like its going to be fun
  • Oh no!! What do you mean by "blew up"??
  • My friend the race director gave me this points map FYI of the course- http://www.pointsmap.com/beach2battleship/

@Leslie- I have a whole monkey load of injuries and my knee is one of them- iced it all night going to try todays workout later in the day- see what happens
  • @ Mariah - hope the knee is better. has it done this before?
  • Ralph given that the course starts out of Wrightsville beach, with the 1/2IM athletes, it seems like they'll be a lot of people on the course. But after the 1/2IM people veer off the IM course (which is about mile 25?), it gets a tad long. However, once you get back on the main road and start heading in (about mile 85) it gets fun and fast, especially since you start passing all the people in cars waiting to get into Wilmington. The run is fun and full of spectators and the volunteers truly rock. Its a great dbl out and back and the finish is great. For the athlete, it rocks....not so much for a spectator. If you got anyone cheering you on, tell them just to sleep in and meet you on the run course, it will save them a lot of time waiting in the car. Have a great time and an awesome race!
