What aero bar system?

Team,

As you may have seen in the Dashboard, I've registered for IMWI'15. I need to go out in the garage and check, but I believe I still have an '06 P3C hanging up out there. If so, then it still has on it a set of the original Hed bars from '03, I believe. I like the adjustability of the aerobars, but the hoods position and the brake levers suck. So at some point early next year I'll be in the market for an aerobar upgrade. I'm looking for:

  • Adjustability of the aerobars: must be able to shorten, lengthen, adjust width, rotate the bars, etc. I want to be able to get them exactly where I want them.
  • Comfortable hoods position. I do a LOT of climbing and I'm just not going to do a 20mi climb in the aerobars
  • No integrated stem
  • Good brake levers.
  • DI2 compatible

Suggestions?

  • Rich- i just bought a P3 and the bars on this bike is what sold me. They are 3T and very adjustable with really nice brake levers. The bars are DI2 compatible as the bike is offered with DI2. Aero bars are very adjustable and the pads were able to be moved exaclty where I wanted them.  Here is a link.

  • Steve, thanks for the input. I was scoping out bars at the bike check in at IMWI on Saturday...

    Anyone else have suggestions?

  • Sounds like a good excuse to buy a new bike.
  • I have the Hed Corsair -- Light, pretty stiff i.e. not flexible when climbing -- Works with any stem and the extensions and pads are very adjustable -- They make two models-- One that is mostly a flat bar and one with a lower drop if you like a lower hoods position -- The aerobar pads also flip upalso if you want for a top bar climbing position --

I'm finally going to retire the Calfee ('02) this year and get a custom, totally blinged, one-of-a-kind Calfee Dragonfly to replace it.

The P3C is plenty fast as is but will make component upgrades: bars, DI2, aero brakes, maybe a Quarq with 808 front, rear, etc.

This is what I have now but the first, first, first one they made back in the day. However, those brake levers below are better than mine. Mine have crap leverage...

No hoods drop needed. When I'm climbing I like to go easy on my back.

  • I like to have infinite adjustments of everything in all directions due to my weird size and fit.                What you have pictured has limited elbow pad adjustment.            I will attach pictures of mine.        I have Vuka Alumina skin bend extensions.    Profile Design Ozero base bar.     Profile Design armrests.      All aluminum as carbon often can not be tightened enough to prevent slippage.
  • The most adjustable combination I've had so far was a Syntace Stratos CX basebar with a Profile Design T2+ Cobra Carbon ClipOn ... it was lightweight, pretty stiff, Di2 was installed and you could adjust EVERYTHING!!
At the moment I'm using a 3T Brezza II Team which is no near as adjustable but gave me a lot more reach for climbing and the armpads are super-narrow which is something I like.
  • Not sure what to go with, but i know what to stay away from. ZIPP Vuka's. They are not adjustable. So you are stuck for what you have.

Curious to see pics of this, thanks!

  • I guess you know how a 3T Brezza II looks like so I just put some pix of the Syntace/Profile cockpit on Dropbox for review image
