Ultra one month after IM

Hi Coach Rich,

A friend of mine just invited me to join a "short" ultra-marathon (33mile) that will take place one month after my IM (race is next weekend - IMMD, this will be my first full distance). Can I use the fitness i built up for the IM and transfer it for the ultra or it would be too taxing for my body?

If it's ok to do it (goal for the ultra is to finish and have fun with my friends), what should be my training like after the IM? How long should I rest before starting to run again, should I add long runs, speed workouts, etc... ?

    Yes, you can do this, but as a general rule I don't talk to EN athletes about post-IM races until after they've raced their IM. In short, it's just not useful to think about anything after the race, especially since you're racing this weekend 

    So around the middle/end of next week, please post your ultra marathon training q's in the Micro Forum for Patrick and he'll help you over there, as he has the UM ball in here.
