Short Course Week of Sept 14-20

Well, The season is drawing to a close.  The November outseason will be starting soon, the temp is falling below 94 in coastal SC and fall is in the air.

has anyone got any more races coming Up?  Late season Sprints or Olympics?

Obviously, I have gone over to the dark side with my IM coming up in Oct but I ask that my short course colleagues not cast me out of this warm and inviting SC forum home. image

  • Big Shout out to Tim Cronk for being second on the EN Strava leaderboard last week with 16 hours of training time. No wonder you are so freaking fast! Nice Job!

If you haven't linked your Garmin connect and Strava accounts yet, I encourage you to do so and participate in the EN training leaderboard on Strava.  See where you are in the lineup.  It is kind of depressing for me but a good motivator none the less.

  • I am sad the our forum is coming to a close. Who is joining the NOS?

@Ralph, since you have been our Yoda, we will expect a full report from your IM! PS- send warm weather to Western NY - I am shivering and it isn't even October!

@Jacklyn, you have been an inspiration to us all. It has been a joy and priviledge to read your posts and accompany you on your journey!

Everyone has done such outstanding work this season.

  • work you must, or a triathlete you will never be.
  • I have an Olympic Tri coming up on October 12th! I am still training!

I finished the Get Faster plan a week and a half ago to build up for a 10 mile running race. I had a great race, came in 3rd in my age group, but it wiped me out. My calves felt like they were made of jello for a week and I couldn't swim or bike for more than 30 minutes without insane cramping. So last week I took it easy but this week I am back to it.

I did my first official short course running workout yesterday which was 3x1200m @ Z5. Wow that was tough! I have only done the long course EN plans up until now so this was my first exposure to Z5. This weekend has me scared with Z5 in the long run!

I did an Olympic in early August on a flat and fast course. This one coming up is on a hilly beat up course so I don't know quite what to expect in terms of time. It is the club championship for my local tri club. I just want to do as well as I can without hurting myself, because I am signed up for a December marathon.

Any other stragglers with a late season tri?
  • As I wrote on the EN Community Dashboard last night, I’m dropping off EN for the next couple of months to complete my hamstring rehab. I’m following a pretty comprehensive program that focuses on agility, flexibility and strength. While I’ve been at it for about 2 weeks now, I have to say that it’s coming along – it’s just painfully slow.  I just added in some slow jogging and there was a lot of complaining about *that* from my hamstring. I know this is a slow process and I’m committed to having the patience to do it right.

I would like to thank you guys here in the Short Course Forum for your encouragement and support this year. It’s nice to have this group located in the middle of the EN-world of Long Distance junkies. I also want to thank Ralph for taking the lead on the SC Forum and keeping it going each and every week. With all you have going on, I’m not sure how you did it .. but thanks.

My plan is to be ready for the OS and I’ll see you back in the SC Forum next year.

@Jim - I wish you a speedy recovery! last year you inspired me to do sprints again this year in hopes of going to Nationals like you! Thanks for all the tips and the friendly smile this year in Milwaukee! Looking forward to the next time we meet!

  • Hey - guess I need to come clean on why this has been such a crazy summer. Had my daughter's wedding, a training class in Germany with a week of leave visiting relatives, then a new job with lots of travel. Short course is about all I could fit in.

Tried to post this picture a few months ago, but I couldn't. Now with a new computer I am going to try again!

Also, I am trying to get this "posting picture" skill down as I get ready for the next OS!

  • @Joe - thank you for sharing this breathtaking picture. Congratulations!
