That's a lot of races in the email. Suggest you pick some that interest you, to narrow down the list, and then ask whatever specific questions you have.
In my case I was considering for this year (in that order)
- Barcelona
- Cozumel
- West Australia
- Chattanooga
Any experience on any of these ones?
Thanks a lot
Victor
If you're done with training, want to race now, and . . .
- $ is an issue, go Chattanooga
- $ is not an issue, go Barcelona (cool city, like Paris with tapas and a Spanish accent)
If you want to train for 2 more months and . . .
- $ is an issue, go Cozumel (personally, I go to Coz to dive and drink piña coladas, nothing about that course even remotely interests me. I would go to Arizona, a very fun venue and course, but that's me)
- $ is not an issue, go W Australia (no brainer for me if I could pull it off)
+1 … For me, an "overseas" trip is something I need time to get my head around, so I would go with with either Chatt or AZ (My personal favorite race, but then, I've never had a bad one there.).
The good news I see here is: "...2015 IRONMAN Lake Tahoe (9/20/15)…" meaning the race goes on, despite it all.
I've done Cozumel twice...very nice and worth doing at least once. Run down on Cozumel:
- Not many air options direct into Cozumel and logistics are tricky to fly into Cancun, van ride to Playa Del Carmen, ferry to Cozumel, then taxi to hotel.
- T1 and T2 are separate locations (T2 is also finish area). Start is not even at T1 anymore due to with current swim. Stunningly beautiful water.
- 3 loop bike leg with strong winds on the east side. Flat, flat, flat and total draftfest into the wind.
- Hot, hot, hot and humid x 3.
- 3 loop run course in town. Lots of spectators, very frequent aid stations, great energy.
- Good race swag, great shirts and medals.
I think that I will go for Chattanooga if I can get a spot. I will try to go to Europe for a 70.3 and try Lake Tahoe again in 2015. I live in Tahoe so it is a no brainer.
Barcelona dates are conflicting with other commitments and require more preparation in terms of logistics. When doing a race in Europe it is always best to extend for couple of weeks more. But agree that Europe should be great.
Let´s see how my plan works. Thanks guys!
