Congrats Brad, 7 years and your finally hit the jackpot. Enjoy the race.
As for me I'm not in. Which is probably a good thing.
I would note that there were 4 people on the international list that have USA listed in the country column. This does not instill great confidence in the "independent accounting firm" . I know I would not want them doing my taxes if they can't even get this right...Perhaps I'm just biter...It's all good. I'm sure my body will thank me for getting rest after IMC and not having to ramp up another IM in 6 weeks.
Brad - Congrats! Your new mantra: "I'm REALLY going to enjoy myself on Oct 9th." You be the eye of the storm while your friends and family use you as an excuse to party in Kona.
(I ripped off the logo below from this page - smeared out the "Ford" and shrank it in PhotoShop. Seem like WTC doesn't have a special logo for their big race, like they do for the US IMs.)

G - Let's hope those four have dual citizenship, and applied under their "foreign" passport status. Also, I noted Missy LeStrange (who set AG course records at Kona in FOUR different age categories) getting in as a lottery winner. Wat's up with THAT?

I didn't get a spot 0 for 7
I guess Missy LeSTrange has the "right" to enter the lottery....BUT....I think the lottery is the masses that are not and may never be fast enough to qualify to get their chance. I thought John Collins said the lottery is for "The Everyman".......I wonder how she hasn't qualified...she's won her age group for several yrs in Kona????????????
Yes it a tough one when age group winners are getting in via the lottery. Or there's also that discussion of former pros coming back as age groupers. While she could qualify at a race I'm sure. The less pounding of getting in through the lottery makes for a better race in Kona. I won't even get in to the issues of only have to hit one peak for the training season. This is with in the rules and I don't have too much to say about it.
Brad, ENJOY the day. Many of us in the house live vicariously though our EM teammates on that special day in Kona. Practice flashing the EN gang sign. I look forward to watch you live on the net cross the line with a huge smile and the EN sign. Matt
Congratulations!!! I missed out this year, but I'll try again next year. I think it's unlikely I'd ever qualify, but I've always dreamed of doing Kona and am greatful to have a chance each year. Since the team helped me finish my first IM last year, at least I now believe I can do it. I guess it's Silverman for me this year.
Brad! I am so excited for you. I got in last year. While I did not have the race that I dreamed of, it was one of the the most amazing journeys of my life. Race day was one of the best days of my life. EN will get you to race day in a very effective manner. You will have a ton of people pulling for your through out the year.
One of the best threads from last year was about 'enjoying yourself' in Kona. It is really easy to wig out--that thread helped to keep me calm the week before the race. People like RnP, Al, Cramer, Dustin (and others) had great suggestions of what to do the week before the race. The environment is amazing, but can be intimidating--which is addressed in the post.
Couple of thoughts: --If you can afford it, get there a week early. The heat is amazing, but being there ahead time helps you to adapt. --Wind is amazing. It is unlike anything I have seen. One point I was heading down hill into the holding my target watts going 15 miles an hour. I hit the bottom of the hill and start to climb. The hill was blocking the wind. I look down again and I'm at the same watts going 16 miles an hour! Amazing. --While the course appears flat--it isn't. Because of the lava nothing is flat. --Sun screen, sun screen, sun screen. A volunteer missed my ankle and I paid the price. Completely my fault. If I had to do it again, I would have trained with compression socks. --Don't miss the underwear run at any cost. --Work up all the spousal support units you can get. You'll cash them all in and them some. --While I do not use travel agencies normally, I booked a place through Anthony Travel. Our first condo was a pit--looked like a crack den. I called them at 8:00. By 8:30 they were onsite checking out the condo. By 11 they had us in a new condo overlooking the beach. This is something you don't want to deal with on race week.

WOW!!! Awesome!!
Wow, Brad! Good thing you couldn't swing ToC this year. You must have known you'd be going to Hawaii instead.
Looking forward to seeing you at your warmup race this year, IMLP.

Brad: I'll be joining you. Got my lottery spot also.

Way to go Larry, all the best to you AND the family, can't wait to hear about the experience.
