ultra-marathon one month after IM?

Hi coach P,

A friend of mine invited me to join a "short" ultra-marathon (33mile) that will take place one month after my IM (race was last Sat.). Can I use the fitness i built up for the IM and transfer it for the ultra or it would be too taxing for my body?

What should be my training after the IM? (goal for the ultra is to finish and have fun with my friends, no real time goal). How long should I rest before starting to run again (already bike for about 90min and walked for about 2h yesterday, walked another 2h today), should I add long runs, speed workouts, etc... ?

Thanks

  • You just did an IM you don't _need_ to run. Rest hard 1 week, minimal exercise. Next week you can start some short 30' runs, ending with an hour on either Sat or Sun. Then you have a week to run before taper week. We can connect them. Don't take a break now and your blow up like a bad firework. :)
  • boy that is good advice! I think I'm going to take it! I really want to run but I just did a yoga class today and that was tough enough!
(Actually I was going to ask a similar question since I have New York marathon in a little more than a month)

sorry to hijack your thread, Catherine... and it was nice to meet you at the race! Hope to see you at the next one!
