Patti's macrothread

I'm always too excited at the end of a season!  thank you for the outline!

My mission this year is to organize my life and schedule to be able to do this season properly!

Thanks, Rich!  I should be able to get to camp in June in Lake Placid.

  • Rich, question on the swim stuff. one of my biggest issues is current, and staying on course. I had a 1:49 time per 100 at MT and a 2:09 at IMMD. so, any recommendations on help on improving that? I have access to open water all year round with Barton Springs. 1/8 mile length of pool..... and have been doing drafting drills with a friend of mine using paceline in the water... and stuff like that. I like the mosh pit cause I don't get lost! I'm a bilateral breather as needed, swim till my hand hits the bottom and do well in a crowd.... but if I choose the wrong feet, what a mess! and if the water is murky, double mess!

any assistance or references for improving that part of my swim will help.

Sounds like you have a hard time swimming in a straight line. Do you tend to go off to one side more frequently? If yes, then try to position yourself with someone on that side and/or sight more frequently.

  • definitely.  yesterday I did the swim workout in the quarry using my snorkel to improve work on body position.  I picked out the buoys before  putting my head under and did the drills to the next buoy without raising my head.... imagining where I last saw the buoy.  sometimes I did well and sometimes I was going the wrong way...  I tried to pretend I was like my friend who is blind.... she goes straighter in the lanes than any of the folks I swim with!

when I can sight and see the buoys it helps but of course picking your head up every 3 strokes isn't so good. ...and of course fog in the goggles, feet in the face etc make that difficult to do.  Any drills other than what I'm doing?  The sun went down before I finished so that was interesting!  It's a good think I'm familiar with this swim spot!

  • BTW, I hope this isn't a dumb question!  also, it could be that strength isn't as good on my left?  I do tend to go to the left side when trying to swim straight.
