Kevin's princeton race report

Swim-29 min. I had only swum about once a week, so I approached this very cautiously. One guy in my wave was pretty quick and far to the right so I didn't consider drafting him. After about 300 yards, I was clearly second in my wave and didn't want to swim alone the whole way. The next guy was only a body length behind, and seemed to be tracking a consistent course and pace. I slowed down, did some backstroke to loosen my shoulders, and when he passed me, I got on his feet. Nice drafting the whole wayimage I had the 4th best swim in my AG.

When the bike started my Garmin 910xt thought I was on the run. I might have hit the spot button by accident taking off wetsuit. Since I'm new to power, I was determined to fix that, and ride with the PM. I restarted it and ended up going pretty slowly for a few minutes as I played with its buttons. Need a PM on bike so I don't have to rely on watch. By many accounts the bike was well over 57 miles. Once I got my PM going, I held a well paced 242 watts. This seemed good since my FTP was 270. My overall split was about 2:47. On my watch I had 2:42 for 55.9 miles (but I had missed a few minutes playing with watch. I was a 2:42 at Tremblant but my Garmin lost my power data. All of this was relatively good considering my training. I have a 1-year old and long commute because we're renovating our NYC apartment. So most of my rides are shorter than what the training program calls for. The course was very rough for parts of the first and last 8 miles. The middle was relatively flat with rollers. I was 15 or 16 in AG.

My run started fast and faded gradually but not terribly. My first few miles were about 7:15, then a few 7:30s, then 8s, and finally 2 at 8:30. I finished with a 1:42. I only did 1-2 training runs a week, a good long run, and maybe a mid week run with 2x1 mike hard. Again, given my training i was pleased with this. Overall I was 15 or 16 in the run and overall in AG at 5:06.

Nutrition was fine. I had 3 bottles of 400 cal and 2000 mg of sodium. During run I had a bottle with 1600 mg of sodium and watered down pickle juice. And 2 e-gels. I took water at aid stations and coke for the last 3 miles.
