Mark's Micro Question

Hey coach, I'm looking ahead and cutting and pasting workouts into Training Peaks. I'm going to Florida during the last part of the 6th week of a bike focus and I'm not taking my bike so I'll miss that last two hour workout. I'll take my running shoes so I can run so that's not an issue. Rich had me down for an unstructured training week for the week of the 20th which is the bulk of the time I'll be gone so that works out great. My question is this, I get back from Florida on Wednesday evening and so I could do a longish bike on the weekend before I head into the NOS. Is that advisable or should I just let it go and play it by ear that week since it's supposed to be an unstructured week? I haven't looked at the first week of the NOS but if I remember correctly there is a FTP test that week. I was planning on doing the test then instead of the last week of the bike focus. Will a 2 hour bike the weekend before compromise that or help get my legs back into working mode after the layoff?

Second question, there is a new half marathon in town the 2nd of November and I was thinking about doing that. Since there is a run test that week I was wondering if I should skip the 5k test and just do the HM as a test. What do you think about that?

Cheers,

Mark

  • Mark -- no long bike for y thanks as that will only hurt your start to the OS unless you just take it super easy! As for the half you could do it but that means training for it which defeats the purpose of the unstructured time in the first place! :) I say be Mr Awesome and run an aid station there to show them how it's done and do the regular test!! :) Half Mary on the OS exit!
