Racing New Orleans - tire question

So at my last HIM, I had major flat trouble on my rear tire. Now I'm starting to get a little nervous thinking about it.  I went today and bought a new tire and was thinking about putting it on my rear powertap wheel, which I've trained on for the last 4 months or so. The problem I see is that I won't have a chance to ride it any significant distance prior to Sunday.  Should I just stick with the tire thats on there now or put the new one on tonight?

  • Flip a coin? The odds of this single bike ride being the 1 that blows out your tire is rather slim unless it is showing cords and has cuts. Putting a new tire on (assuming clincher) is also very straight forward and it would be a terrible stroke of bad luck if it failed you. Either way, flip a quarter and just rest your mind with the outcome.

  • FWIW, I just put new rubber on race wheels...one less thing to worry about on race day. CU in NO.
  • I agree. See ya there.
