Congratulations on another great race Tim. I saw you at bike dismount and you were in the zone. Way to bring it home on the run. I think you need to buy a house in Hawaii too, save on some of the hotel fees!
Awesome race Tim -- Another notch in the Belt. You really have this game wired! It was great meeting you over the weekend and being out on the course together. You came by me in the last 5 miles on the bike with about 5 of those guys you towed back into town. Didn't think I'd see you on the run but when I did you became a carrot for me to chase as we hit base of the back side of Barton. Thanks for the props in your race report! I have learned much from reading your stuff these last few seasons.
Again -- congrats on another great performance -- looking forward to following you in Kona!
Wow thank you so much for all the kind words.... The support from the EN team and coaches is what makes this community what it is... One of the most valuable tools we have here at EN are the training forums, race plans , and race reports! Anyone can train but we collectively get smarter by participating.... Thanks again for everything....
Please let me know if I missed a question!
@Melanie- yes I suppose I would try to line up earlier for the rolling start to ensure a better/cleaner bike... still not sure it would be worthwhile though... The AG'er with the fastest swim on the day a (39:xx) commented on ST that he was in line for 2hrs , got in the water about a 1/3 of the way back but still passed all in front of him and even some of the women Pro's... He had a lonely first 3hrs on the bike which was the exact opposite of my experience.
@Al- What to do to win? Well obviously make ZERO mistakes like wrong turns on the 2nd lap of the run or dropping my sun glasses twice (forgot to mention).... Training I think this year was spot on with a really good mix of early year IM build , lots of speed work , another volume bump and good taper.... The answer of course lies in execution... In retrospect I think swimming further out may have bought some swim time in the faster current... Riding a more even bike (less watts on the first half and more on the second half) may have helped my run but may have hurt my bike split? Tough to call here cause I'm real happy with the time of the bike split and dont think it damaged the run too much..Lining up earlier in the swim line would have got me a cleaner bike... The real answer is always the run... But yet again I couldnt be happier with a 3:45 on that course vs 3:40 at IMTX and 3:33 at IMFL.... Had I known where I was relative to my competition would have helped me but it also would have helped him! I guess we'll never know... But I appreciate the question as it made me think things through several more times... That is what a good teacher does , makes his students think!
@Matt... I had no clue to who I was racing and what position I was in from start to finish! I do kinda like that format though and we all race under the same conditions.... Its up to the individual to motivate and finish the best they can... YES it would be awesome to race head to head and know that I only had less than 4 min to close first place... Maybe just maybe I could have risen to the occasion... In the hunt at KONA .... Well last year I went 10:47 for 75th place , 22 guys in my AG went sub 10hrs.... In the M55-59 AG only 5 guys went sub 10hrs ... So we will see what I have this year.... In a perfect world I will save my all out KONA push for 2017 my first year in the M55-59 and go for that sub 10hr podium!
Bruce... Why yes I think I'll be racing KONA 2015 and maybe next weekend but we will see how it all unfolds depending on how I'm feeling.... I plan to ride early on Sunday up to Hawi and back down , then Heather and I will be going back up to Hawi for lunch.... Tues plan is for an hour on the QK and thurs a 30min QK ride.
Robin... Yes I think the swim/bike is a wash more or less.... Quite interestingly I went 10:55:57 @ IMTX and 10:57:08 @ IMCHOO ... 1:15 faster @ IMTX out of that 1:00 exactly was in transitions... so I was 15 seconds faster at IMTX for the SBR sections.
Kim... I would say for me the swim was 15-17 min faster than a normal swim... As I said to Robin its a wash with the bike more or less... You have nothing to be worried about at IMCHOO except for that run... You are no stranger to hills with your Quassy experience and being the EN ninja you are its all about smart execution... You will be fine at CHOO even if its hot!
Brad.... LOL yep racing KONA 13 days after CHOO..... No biggie really as we had our very own EN member William "Skip" Crawford and his wife Kathy do IMMD and IMCHOO 1 week apart... EN Eric Blakie is doing KONA for his 6th IM this year .... And some guy ahead of me on the AWA WTC rankings in my AG has completed 8 IM's so far this year ! We'll see what happens...
Mark... So glad I could be your carrot! You went by me just the way you should leaving no doubt whatsoever (just like Robin @ IMTX) .... Congrats on your breakthru race performance.. The learning was mutual and I thank you for your participation! Say hi to Katy!
Tim it was great to meet you in Chattanooga. Congrats once again on superb fitness, execution and another KQ slot. I hope you and Heather have a blast in Kona and will be tracking your progress.
Tim, I have nothing to add really other than to point out that YOU.ARE.AN.ANIMAL!!! It will be fun to see you guys next week. You really add so much knowledge and experience to this team on top of your usual race execution bad-assery! Thanks for being an open book with your ideas. You definitely helped me this yr, but I'm sure I am just one of countless hundreds you helped. You really are leading from the from.
Curious to see how you feel 2 weeks after racing that hard. I know I could not have "raced" 2 weeks after IMMT even if it is just an extend race rehearsal.
Amazing race Tim. I will have to learn a lot from you. I am 51 and I will have to figure out how to get faster in the next couple of years. Enjoy Kona!

Kathy and I are sorry we did not get to meet up with you and Heather.
Enjoy Kona and hopefully we will see you at a race in 2015.
Congrats and it was great to finally meet you! Looking forward to your race this weekend!
