Power zones look like they are not matching up

Hi

I did my power testing during the week and

Power zones look like they are not matching up

, my questions are,

Q1 my figures don’t seem to match up. See below

Bike Zones

Z1: 0 - 151

Z2: 151 - 162

Z3: 173 - 183

Z4: 205 - 216

Z5: 237 - 259

If you look at Z2 it goes from 151-162, and then Z3 starts at 173. There seems to be a gap from 162 up to 173. Which means I can’t get proper power zones in my Garmin.

Q2 How often will I be retesting my bike power and run paces to see any improvements, and is there a recovery week every 4th week

Thanks

Aidan

  • No, these are correct EN zones. To put them into % of FTP they look like this:

    z1: <70%
z2: 70-75%
    z3: 80-85%
    z4: 95-100%
    z5: 110-120%
  • Thanks Keith. Do you know roughly how often we will be retesting power and pace through out the programme.
  • Hi Aidan, I think the testing is every four weeks during the out season plan. It's different for some of the plans though. The coaches always say that you can or should test of you feel your power had changed.
Also, if you're seeing up a workout in a Garmin you can use custom power for the intervals rather than a zone and put in your exact numbers. That way the Garmin will keep you honest.

To add more context, our zones actually mean something

z1: <70% Generally go all day, this is what you'd ride for the first 45-60' of an IM bike

    z2: 70-75% : Generally IM watts

    z3: 80-85% : HIM watts

z4: 95-100% : Watts for short course race / make me faster zone

z5: 110-120%: Very hard, think drag racing.
