Last race of season 2014

Hi Coach Patrick..... Being a new member, I did not have time to work with your training plans with only 6 wks till my 1st 70.3 in Augusta this past weekend.  Looking forward to having you help set me up for for my A race in 2015 at Louisville IM in Oct.  Please give me your advice on where I should go from here and FYI , I took 2nd in my ag [70-74] but had some problems on the run. Hope for better results next time.  Thanks in advance....

  • Mac - step one is a quick race report so we can capture your lessons learned. These are great to use when your next race is looking and you can't remember what the hell you did "in that race from last year!" :)

You'll want to recover / transition to start the OutSeason with us at the end of October -- the official kick off to the 2015 season. I suggest you ask Coach Rich in the Macro thread as he handles all the big picture stuff!!!!
  • Coach Patrick suggested I give a race report after my first 70.3 in Augusta this past weekend. I am a new member [ 2 mo's] runner for yrs., 3 yr bike and new swimmer 1 1/2 yr. Did Boston last 2 yrs but will pass this yr. I am 71 yr "young" and have to choose my battles! Have done sprint & Oly tri's for 2 yrs but this is my first 70.3. Joined EN 1 month before my race so did not have time to use their training plans. Lost 6 wks of training during last 3 months before race due to GI problems which seems better now. My swim was awful....did 3 open water practice swims before race and all went well but at race I got excited and could not get into my box and rhythm. Was on my back for 50 % of swim....I will be back in pool soon as I need it! Slowest swim in my ag @ 42 min and I had planned 30. T 1 not too bad...6 1/2 min and had decent bike for not knowing the course...planned on 18 mph at 3 hrs but did 17.53 mph at 3:11. My plan for the run was 2 to 2:10 but due to cramps in both calves and right hamstring [ first time I ever had cramps while running!] I had to walk several times and was a very slow for me 2:31. As my wife told me, due to recent GI problems, lost of training and 1st timer I should be happy with my 6:31 finish and ended up 2nd place in my AG. But of course I wanted first and thought I could get it, but missed by about 14 mins. I will be in touch with Coach Rich soon for him to give me a training plan for 2015 and my A race Louisville 140.6 in Oct which I signed up for before Augusta. My goal is to take 1st in Louisvile in my AG and hopefully Kona in 2016. That is my plan and goals for the next 2 ys and I hope EN and Coach Patrick and Rich can help me get there. Great training wishes to all....... Mac
