We made it home from Paris - barely!
We checked the flights before leaving the apartment in Paris yesterday and it said our flight to London was cancelled due to "weather." We didn't have access to English language news at the apartment and hadn't been checking any online. We show up at the airport and learn about the ash from the volcano in Iceland. John jumps on the phone to Continental and discoveres that the next time they can book us through with Business First (we used miles to get over there and had booked Business First/First Class ) was Tuesday through Frankfurt. We took coming back Friday through Frankfurt coach all the way. Then we decided to head to the Continental counter and see what they could do. Turns out, they got us on the flight to Newark Thursday afternoon and waitlisted for Business First from Paris to Newark and middle seats from Newark to Houston. We did get upgraded for the overseas leg! Yippee! We got home about 11 last night.
We are thrilled since if we'd waited until today, there is no telling how long we'd be there.
By the way - you can't fly back into the US with knitting needles on your carry on baggage anymore. That's a whole nother story. . . .

We bought some lottery tickets since we are feeling lucky. Keep your fingers crossed!
Isn't that what the Chunnel's for?
I wonder how long this is going to last?
Al: Last I heard the trains were either full or shut down because people were saying they couldn't get a train.
Just found this on CNN.com:
Airspace restrictions over the United Kingdom have been extended to 1 a.m. Sunday (8 p.m. ET Saturday), British air traffic control provider NATS said.
We also shouldn't forget that there are people on Iceland dealing with flooding, etc. due to the volcano. Not totally sure the impact on them, but there is more going on than just travel disruptions.
