Short Course Week of Oct 13-20

Not too much to report this late in the season,  The team had an amazing showing at Kona! That looks like a tough venue for sure with those race times.  Peter had a great Race Last Week.  Be sure and check out his Race Report.

Everyone needs to get their head straight for the OS workouts to come.  I will probably be in the JOS rather than Nov OS but the pain is the same for all of us.  Focus on being prepared for the workouts and let the intervals do their magic.  Take a short break before the OS but don't ride the cupcake train to a race-weight disaster.  Did that sound like I was admitting a personal weakness? Oh Well.

@Joe : Thanks for the offer.  I am always open to guidance form those who have taken the trail before me.  I have read and/or listened to all of the Wiki info, the power racing info, and most of the race execution resources.  I have read the past race reports from B2B and I think I have a pretty good base of knowledge, it will be using that knowledge on race day that might prove challenging.

Have a great week team.

  • @ Cuz Ralph. You sound ready. Have a great time. You have definitely put in the work.

Couch Rich has a thread started about NOS goals and accountability. Interesting read and concept. I for one have several big goals.

#1 Body comp. I am not going to ride the cupcake train. But I am going to slow the weekly weight loss down to 0.5 to 1 lb per week to support the intensity of the OS nutritionally. I've got till May to complete my weight goal of 15+ pounds. I have held steady through the summer after a 20 lb loss during the JOS.

#2 Capture metrics. I am a terrible tech person. If Strava doesn't grab it for me. No go. I know bbbaaaddd tri mom. SO today is going to be down loading Davids spreadsheet and figuring out how to us it. SIGH. I hate numbers. They're so stressful. Mainly because I have no clue what it really means or what to do with the info.

No direct performance goals yet. I think with the 2 goals I have the other stuff will become apparent and fall into place.

  • @ Jacklyn_ Do you use Mac or PC? I have a Mac program that does a great job of tracking workouts. Simple to use and will download files from Garmin or strava. PC programs Im not so sure about.
  • @ Ralph- I have a PC. I downloaded Davids spreadsheet and attempting to figure it all out. Thanks for the offer! I really appreciate it.

  • @Ralph - great results at the Beach to Battleship!!

    255/ 289- RALPH MOORE- 51- BEAUFORT SC 311 (Swim) 00:57:23 (Overall?) 31 (T-1) 00:04:31 (Overall?) 322 (Bike) 06:32:48 93(T-2) 00:05:04 (Overall?) 223 (Run) 05:05:51 Finish: 12:45:35

Proud of you man!!!! You are a lot better swimmer than you've let on and your biking and running isn't shabby either!
  • @ CUZ RALPH_ Way to go! I had no doubt that you would smoke it. Glad your ok too. I was worried for awhile.

  • Thanks guys. It went better than I thought it would in some ways. The SC work really made my transitions smooth so I was 1 in AG in T1 and about 5th in T2. Free speed there. I look like a fast swimmer because the swim is with the tide. Yay for that. The bike split was about what I expected and I got the negative split. The run was slower than I would have liked but steady. Not sure if I got the negative split but it should be close. Thanks for all of your support!
  • EN vet and focusing on short course now. MTB and DU's mostly.

What is the purpose of these weekly threads? Post workouts? Ask questions? Drink beer?

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

  • Hey John,
The answer to your question is Yes. During the summer months, we use the short course forum for all of the reasons above. Since the plan is similar from week to week, folks can share workouts even if they are on different weeks of their plans and it is nice to hear how folks do in their races too. the forum is kind of slow in the winter but cranks up in the spring.
