IMCoz 2014 - Week 6 of 12 almost halftime

Ok week #6 is under way. My sunday workout was a killer and as a result I could not answer the bell and get back on the bike this morning. Or rather, I could have but I was better served by sleeping in a little.

Lunch time was a swim. Had to cap it at an hour due to client meetings. But I was able to beat myself up well enough in an hour.

  • Swam for an hour this morning. Felt like I was swimming in mud. Never felt like the body woke up. Hopefully, it will be awake by this evening when I do my run.

You've got Austin coming up, right? I'll be doing my first Camp week that week/weekend. I think Camp Week should be interesting. I've never ridden that much on consecutive days. Part of me is looking forward to it, the other part of me is a bit freaked out.

  • yes. Austin 70.3 is the weekend after next. GOnna miss camp this buildup. But I did one last fall and another getting ready for IMTX. What I can say that I learned came on the second day of long riding - I hit a point where the riding didnt get any harder - by that I mean for the first day, I felt fatigue building. And the first hour of the second long ride was rough as I loosened up but after that it didnt really get worse. Power was the same for both days. It was a week before I felt myself again though. I see notes about feeling sluggish, not hitting numbers, etc. I might not have had enough time to sleep coming out of it.
I guess all in all it was a better phychological boost and nutrition / clothing prep test than anything else.

Did a run this morning. Going to go back and pick up monday's bike session that I slept through at lunch. Normally I would not go back after a missed session but all I am doing is swimming tomorrow so I might as well.
  • swim day today. 30x100(10) looking for hard effort that can be sustained the whole way. It was nice to get in to the pool. work was rough today.
  • How'd your swim video turn out?

Did my interval run last night, and had a difficult time hitting my numbers. Then I had an interval ride today, and again had a difficult time with my numbers. I've been really tired this week -- wanting to nap, but not having time too. Skipping the low priority run tonight to get some more rest. Really ready to start feeling like myself again.
  • swim video was not that interesting to me at least. I still have yet to sit down with my swim guru and pick through it.

I hear you on the numbers as we get deeper in to the IM build. Some days I tell myself that RPE is good enough. If it says Z4 and I am running "hard" then that it what I have that day.If all I have is 70%, then I just try and bring 100% of that 70%.

It sounds like rest is needed. I had a couple of easier days and was able to hit my run hard today. At least what passes for hard from me...

  • 2hr run. Paced easier than en protocol. 40min easy then 12 rounds of 5min z2, 1min z1. Then 10 min cd. 12.6mi. Ran it by rpe. All I watched was cadence to make sure it stayed above 90. A good time was had by all.
  • Thursday I wasn't feeling well so I decided to sleep a lot and take the day off. Friday I swam but that wore me out so I rested the rest of the day. Today I ran long, but took it easy. Ran by RPE and kept it in the easy zone. Long bike tomorrow - planning to do it again by RPE because still not feeling great. Going to take it easy the rest of the day and hopefully feel great in the morning.
  • Long day today. 4:30 bike with a 30min hard run off of it. Felt pretty good. Not sure what is going to happen next weekend in austin but should be fun. Till about the last hour anyway.
    Hope your energy returns!
