Reid Sheffield's Macro Thread

Hi Rich,

New member and looking forward to starting the OS program later this month.  One of the challenges I've had in training and following a training plan is that I travel for business from time to time.  What is your general guidance when it comes to navigating around business travel where there is no access to a bike?  Most of the time I can accommodate the run, and sometimes I have a Lifetime Fitness nearby where I can swim, but obviously the bike is a challenge.  Do you move workouts around? Skip them and just train the days that are planned if possible?

Thanks

Reid

    Hey Reid,

Please start with this wiki article on modifying the plans for vacation/work travel. Then if you need specific help for a specific week, please reach out to Patrick in the Micro Forum. Thanks!

Are the 2015 IM and HIM plans that are now loaded any different than the 2014 plans?  I had already loaded the 2014 plans into TP and wanted to know if need to make updates.

    Thanks

Yes, they are different. In fact, the system should have automatically moved you from the '14 to the '15 plan. So if that didn't happen, please make that switch. Thanks.

  • Hi Rich

Looking for some guidance on a big volume bike week and when to put it into my plan.  I am doing 70.3 CHOO on 5/17 and IM Mont-Tremblant on 8/16.  I have been doing a lot of business travel lately and I'm able to get in my runs and swims on the road during the week, but not on the bike.  Feel like I'm slipping on my bike volume and may continue to do so with upcoming travel. I do have some vacation flexibility and thinking I'd like to take a week off from work prior to the 70.3 in May and get in some high bike volume in the North GA mountains.  From a timing perspective, what would be the best week?  How far out from the race?

    Thanks

    Reid

Three weeks out from the race, so as to not compromise the timing of your final race rehearsal, is idea. BTW, I went to college at Emory and kinda "grew up" riding motorcycles in the north GA mountains. Great area!

  • Rich, just finished 70.3 CHOO this past weekend.  My plan calls for an unstructured week before getting back to IM plan for Mont-Tremblant.  What exactly does this look like?  Planning total rest today (Monday).  Assuming this means just doing as I feel with recovery in mind?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    thanks

  • We like to say "unstructured" because we want you to unplug your head and do what you want :-). That said, would be good if you could do a long-ish ride on Saturday (~2-2.5hrs) and long-ish run on Sunday (1:20-30) but the rest of the week should be up to you. Again, this is more about resetting your head.
